The northern pounds are full. The animals need us!

We brought 146 animals (48 dogs and 98 cats) into care this month, and we rehomed 147 (113 cats and 34 dogs).

But the northern pounds are once again full! We are VERY worried about the many animals currently waiting to come into care.

We urgently need foster homes and adoptions. If you are thinking of adopting or fostering, now is the time! You will be saving a life. We are holding an online Foster Home Volunteer Orientation via Zoom on September 6 and an in-person adoption event on September 11. Visit our website to see all the pets currently available.

All of our adoptable pets are cared for by volunteer foster homes. For you, this means adopting a pet that has lived with a loving family like yours. If there is more the pet needs to learn, we will provide you with guidance. Our goal is to match you to a pet that suits your life.

We want to ALWAYS be there to help homeless animals. If you can't adopt or foster, please support our events or donate. We are truly grateful to our supporters for being there when the animals need us most! Every life matters.

Rescue Stories

Among the volume of animals we brought into care this month were the cases that needed specialized or urgent care. Injured puppies. Quilled dogs. Starving animals. Abandoned cats. Stories like Elsa and Anna, LexiFaye, Carter and Tangerine, and the list goes on. And we were very sad to say farewell to Bandit and elated to see great progress for Pilot. These pets rely on your donations. We think they are worth it and we are glad you agree!

Check This Out!

We are so grateful for our most recent donation from Champion Petfoods. They provided seven pallets of food that will help keep our foster animals well fed. Their ongoing support over the years has been key to our success. Thank you as well to Flaman Rentals Edmonton for the loan of their trailer. And a huge shout out to dedicated SCARS volunteer, Lenard, and all the volunteers who share their time and energy to load and then unload these important donations.

Second Chances – Going Down This Road Again Fundraiser

In 2019, SCARS provided images for the video for Bob Donaldson’s single “Second Chances (Going Down This Road Again)” to bring awareness to animal rescue.

Now Bob is trying to raise $75,000 in support of SCARS with the support of Callioux Law. They are proud to support this cause that is close to their hearts. Callioux Law is a law firm that specializes in family law and child welfare and they have their own service dog! Fozzie helps comfort children and clients of all ages.

Thanks to Callioux Law’s support, starting on June 14, you will hear promotions of this campaign on CISN 103.9/630 CHED/Global Edmonton!

They have also teamed up with Canada Helps to collect donations and make it easy for supporters to receive a tax receipt! Click here to learn more and to donate!

Click here to listen and view  the music video to Second Chances (Going Down This Road Again) that features SCARS dogs!
We hope you love it as much as we do!

Look at Me Now (Tribute)

Dear sweet Rocky joined the SCARS family a few months ago. He came into care with severe sores all over his body. The sores were not the result of injury or infection, but an auto immune disorder. He joined one of our wonderful foster homes who, along with our vet care team, tackled his health issues. After successfully getting him stable and comfortable, we set about looking for a home for him.

We are so grateful for the wonderful people in this world who courageously adopt a senior dog, knowing that the days left ahead are few. They bravely step up with love and kindness, knowing there is heartbreak ahead. Rocky found this family. He was adopted on July 22 and lived the rest of his days in their loving care on a beautiful acreage.

Rocky peacefully found his wings recently. Our deep sympathy and thanks to his foster family and his adopters, who gave him an amazing second chance.
