President's Message - Lisa Lewis
HAPPY FALL!

My husband and I have been doing a little travelling and have seen some incredible scenery along the way! I think the leaves on the trees changed overnight from green to a blaze of yellow and orange and red. The drives we have taken have been such a welcome retreat from the everyday doldrums. I even took the time to do a few whimsical pumpkins with watercolor. It is so freeing to just paint…….whatever! If you can, I encourage you to head outside with all the yellow, orange, red, purple paint you can find and just go at it! Make a mess and then be grateful for the joy color brings to your life.

We had the opportunity to paint a pumpkin with Mary Steingesser. I was in Santa Fe, as many of you know, so missed this fabulous class. Mary, you are such a welcome talent. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Also, fellow RMHi member and teacher Paula Leopold had us dusting off our colored pencils to do some beautiful fall leaves.  I was so sorry to miss this class because I love the portability of colored pencils. I’m anxious to see the results of her class! I’m sure they’re all beautiful!  Thank you Paula!!!!!

To those of you who were able to take advantage of these classes, please send a photo of your labors so we can get them on the website!

One of the nice things about these Zoom classes is that they’re available to everyone in the chapter from the convenience of their own home. For those of you who live outside the Denver area, it’s great that you can be with us. Maybe we’ll need to incorporate this in all future meetings………..

At the Zoom meeting in October, the 2021 officers were approved. Thank you, ladies, for your dedication and perseverance and love for creativity.

When your membership renewal comes up, don’t forget that your dues to SDP and RMHi can be paid by credit card. This makes life a whole lot easier. For SDP, you just go onto their website and follow the links there. For RMHi, just contact Linda Beaty, our treasurer, and she’ll get you taken care of. It’s that simple.  (Speaking of which, I think I need to get this done. Yikes!)

And on that note……….move on for wise words from your additional board members.

Lisa

Vice President/Program Report - Nancy Glassman

Hope everyone is enjoying the Fall weather.  I for one am glad we are no longer  in the 90's.  The trees are so pretty this year.

Thank you Paula Leopold for teaching Fall Leaves with colored pencils, on Saturday October 3rd.   The class loved these
beautiful leaves and berries.  We always  look forward to Paula's classes.

Mary Steingesser  taught her own design of  painting a Pumpkin.  It was fun to see the different colors we all  picked
to paint the strokes on our pumpkins.  Thank you Mary for teaching this class.

Below is Melinda Barnes unfinished pumpkin.  Is it beautiful!

Congratulations to Marilyn Corners for accepting a position on the SDP Board.  In previous years Marilyn has served on the SDP Board.
Thank you Marilyn.

Ginny will be teaching a class on Poinsettia on a stocking on  November 7th, 2020 at 10 A.M.
See Ginny's article for more details.  Thank you Ginny for making these stockings and  teaching
this class.

November 7, 2020 Project - Ginny Sparlin

Hi All,
As we are unable to have our regular Christmas meeting with all that's gone on this year, we'd like to try to get everyone into the Christmas spirit by getting together on our computers and painting. The project is a Poinsettia on a Christmas stocking(or other fabric surface of your choice) on  Saturday, November 7, at 10:am on Zoom. We can paint and maybe chat a little and reconnect. It's been a long year so far and hopefully 2021 will get better, but for now let's get our minds off our troubles and take some time to play in the paint!

If you plan to participate, you'll need to send $15.00 to Linda Beaty(treasurer), make checks out to Rocky Mt. Hi. I will email you a pattern packet with instructions, pattern line drawing and photos. You'll need to make arrangements with me to pick up your stocking which is included in the price of the packet. In a pinch I could mail it to you. There is some prep work you'll need to do as well as getting your supplies ready, so you'll want to get moving on this. My number is : 303-693-0771 if you have questions or want to make arrangements to pick up a stocking for you or other members. This is a fun project that I think you'll enjoy. So have your Christmas cookies handy next to your cup of cocoa and we'll paint up some Christmas cheer!!

Travel Teacher Seminar Chair Report - Melinda Barnes

Wonderful news..
. several seminars are being scheduled by Carolyn, Janet and Cec via Zoom for 2021. I asked if RMHi could join the Littleton and Pikes Peak chapters for the seminars and they have graciously agreed! I will share more information for teachers and dates in our next newsletter.

RMHi is co-sponsoring with High Plains Decorative Artists a seminar with Mark Polomchak. This seminar is tentatively rescheduled for August 2021. It is impossible to have Mark teach his technique on Zoom. At this time because of the Covid-19 the class may or may not be available to us.  Updates on that as it's available.

They are working on a new website, https://painting-crafts.com/ which will only allow you to order products that they currently have in stock. Hoftcraft isn't taking back orders at the present time.

We had two great classes this past month.... thank you both for teaching on Zoom for us.  Paula Leopold taught a wonderful design in colored pencils.  Here is a photo of Gina Fernandez's finished project!

Mary Steingesser taught a beautiful design on a pumpkin shaped board.  I'm sorry to say mine isn't finished and I don't have a photo of anyone's finished piece.

Lydia Steeves is really gearing up with online classes. Some on her website, some on Zoom and she is also one of the teachers for the online convention in March. Lydia is very talented and loves to paint all kinds of animals. If you are an animal lover you need to check her out.

The SDP Certification Facebook and Zoom meeting was live September 21st. Even though we weren't able to be there it was very exciting to see who passed their boards. Yes, tears were shed. <grin> Photos of all the passing boards have been uploaded to the SDP website. It is always fun to see the boards.
