President's Message - Nancy Glassman

Wow has it been hot enough?  Hope you have all found a way to stay cool.  It is hard to believe, 1st day of fall is in 3 weeks.

Thank you Karon Sorensen, for teaching Deer at Sunset in watercolor, at our August Chapter meeting. It is always fun to learn new techniques.   Karon is a great teacher.  We all had a pretty picture to take home.

It is with great sadness to report,  the Art Show and Tea scheduled for  September 13, 2019, has been cancelled.  Thank you Karon for all your hard work planning and organizing this event.

1st Vice President - Lisa Lewis

This year we were fortunate to have some of our members offer up the opportunity for us to paint projects that could be completed at our regular monthly meetings. Thanks to Mary Steingesser, Catherine Roche, Karon Sorensen, Ginny Sparling, Nancy Hibbert, Andrene Schmelzer and Lisa Lewis for their contributions and creativity.

There will be no project for September as there will be no monthly meeting.

In October, Andrene Schmelzer will take us through the painting of a Snowman Spoon.  The supply list and cost will be in next month’s newsletter so please watch for that.

I would be very interested in hearing your ideas for next years’ project ideas for the Monday meetings. The teachers/facilitators put in time to make these projects successful and oftentimes attendance is a bit lean for all they do. If you have any feedback on how to generate excitement and boost attendance for these meetings, I’d love to read your ideas. What can we do to maintain interest and relevance in a busy world? While we enjoy the social aspect of our time together, we are first and foremost a Chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters.

Thank you!

Community Outreach- Catherine Roche

Here are samples of our painted wine glass project we plan to teach to residents at Garden Plaza. We don't yet have a date, nor know how many residents will attend this Make-It-And-Take-It Project, but we are hopeful they will like it. Our lead teacher is Mary Steingesser, with Catherine Roche and others as assistants.

Art Show and Tea - Karon Sorensen

I am sorry to report that due to the low interest we had to cancel the Art Show & Tea for Sept 13.
The cater had to have a minimum of 20 people which we never reached.
This is very disappointing to many of us as it has been a wonderful event in the past.

Hospitality Report - Andrene Schmelzer

For September newsletter I want to thank those that brought refreshments to our August meeting. They were Verlene Siska and Nancy Glassman. For October meeting we have Noreen Goetz, Char Butcher and Linda Beaty signed up

Sunshine Report- Karon Sorensen

Please keep Char Bucher in you thoughts and prayers at this time with her daughter's illness.

Travel Teacher Seminar Chair Report - Melinda Barnes

Sadly Paula Leopold's seminar was canceled because we didn't have enough students sign-up.  Mary Steingesser has graciously offered to teach a wonderful "Jingle My Kringle" Santa ornament on October 5th. The original designer is Sandy LeFlore of "Just Fine Designs"

Cost of the class will be $25.00 which includes the wood, pattern and jingle bells. Our lunch is also included in that price. Hours 10:00 AM to 4 PM October 5th.

You must sign-up by Sunday, September 8th so Mary can order the supplies.

Please contact me by Sunday night (I'm up late) if you would like to take this class.

Hot trends I'm seeing in our industry: The little red truck and some in different colors now. Gnomes and Buffalo Checks are trending now. Owls are still popular too.

Now that we are losing Artists Club for a source of painting supplies you might consider signing up for Hofcraft's newsletters if you don't already get one. Hofcraft has sales every week and carries almost everything paint related.

Another source for all your painting needs is Viking Woodcrafts. They have been around for years, and under new ownership the last couple of years. You can signup for their newsletter if you want one.

Cupboard Distributing has so many wonderful patterns by Chris Haughey and other artists. They carry patterns, books, brushes, paint, mediums, wood, stencils, tools and many other painting related items. The ever popular little red truck that is so popular in our industry the past few months and this one by Chris is darling. Chris and her husband recently purchased a company that makes stencils so the variety is abundant.
