President's Message - Lisa Lewis
A Not-so-brief Word from the President:

It is the snowy morning we have been anticipating as I write this, and I have yet to view anything that looks like real snow. I must say it was nice to put on some comfy jeans and a sweatshirt this morning!

So much is happening with our chapter that I hope to remember it all!

First and foremost, the board unanimously voted this year to make
IRIS LUCKEL
a Lifetime Member. Iris is that voice on the phone reminding you about upcoming events and connecting with new members about meetings. In addition to her many phone calls, she has been responsible for our chapter meeting locations (for years!) and working tirelessly to secure those. That alone is a thankless project. (Ask her sometime about finding all those places!) Although her arthritic hands have prevented her from painting with us these past several years, she is always a present member at the meetings making sure to connect with everyone. She has been serving on the board as our facilities chair and has been working with Catherine Roche who is our current Garden Plaza facilities liaison.
Thank you, Iris!!

Secondly, I proposed to the board that we retain our positions for 2021. This was suggested so that we could see this pandemic situation through since it began early on in 2020. Here are the officers we’re nominating for 2021:

Executive Board:
President – Lisa Lewis
1st Vice President – Nancy Glassman and Mary Steingesser
2nd Vice President/Membership – Debbie Poster
Secretary – Ginny Sparlin
Treasurer – Linda Beaty
Newsletter Editor – Verlene Siska

Committee Chairs:
    Traveling Seminars: Melinda Barnes
    Local Seminars: Char Bucher
    Brain Injury Alliance: Marilyn Corners
    Sunshine: Karon Sorensen
    Website: Melinda Barnes
    Membership Booklet: Elissa McAlear

The following positions are on hold until we resume live chapter meetings:
Facilities at Garden Plaza: Catherine Roche
    Hospitality: Andrene Schmelzer

Thirdly, you will notice that we do not have a Ways and Means chairperson at this time. This person is responsible for coordinating the events that raise money for our chapter and its outreach. The executive board discussed this at length at a recent meeting and it will be an ongoing topic. If you have experience in this area, please email me.

UPCOMING CLASSES:
There are a number of classes that will be offered via Zoom that I hope you will be able to enjoy. We do not pay the instructors for these chapter meeting classes if they are part of our chapter, but there sometimes is a supply fee. Make sure you read on for the dates of these classes.

A brief business meeting will be held in October prior to the beginning of the Pumpkin project Mary Steingesser will be leading. This meeting primarily will be to vote to retain the board officers for 2021.

Lastly, thanks to Mary Steingesser for helping us with our witch project recently. I was very pleased with the number of participants. We were joined by several members of the High Plains chapter as well. Mary, you are one patient teacher  - especially when I was scrambling to get the project prepped that morning after I found out I didn’t have to work that day!

Thanks for reading!

Lisa

Vice President/Program Report - Nancy Glassman/Mary Steingesser

Many thanks to Andrene for the fun tea bag class!  We had about a dozen people on Zoom who attended.  Some people used stamps and some did their own drawings to produce greeting cards or journal pages, for instance. That class was recorded so if you don’t have the link and want it, just ask Mary Steingesser.

And thank you to Mary for the Boot Sweeping Boogie Zoom class!  We had about a dozen people in attendance for that class as well.  Bobbie Campbell even peeked in right when Mary was using a Bobbie’s Blender mop.  It was perfect timing and very funny!  People painted on a variety of surfaces, so there were many shapes and sizes and even a few different colors.  Unfortunately, we don’t have a recording because Mary accidentally double clicked the recording button which started the recording and then immediately stopped it.  Oops!  Sorry about that!

Please join us for our next class which is a beginner level where we’ll be painting dots with tails (or you can pull strokes if you’re so inclined) and lots of linework.

Chapter Zoom class:  Monday, October 5th, 1pm
Project:  Pumpkin with Mary Steingesser
Cost:  *$15 for class, surface, and pattern packet or *$10 for class and pattern packet.
*$5 of the fee goes to the chapter as a fundraiser.  Make checks out to RMHi and give to Linda Beaty or pay Linda by credit card.

To get the surface and/or pattern packet, please arrange with Mary (artzmary@mac.com).  Nancy Glassman and Andrene Schmelzer have agreed to be pick up points if traveling to Mary’s is an issue or if Mary can’t travel to your home.

We plan to have Ginny teach a poinsettia on a stocking for the November Zoom class, so we’re looking forward to that as well.

Hope to see you on Zoom!

Your co-vice presidents,
Nancy Glassman and Mary Steingesser

Sunshine Report- Karon Sorensen

With our brief cold snap and snow I guess it"s time to think of fall and those projects for the season and start painting .

We have no September birthdays to celebrate.
If anyone knows of a member that is ill or needs a card please let me know.

Local Teacher Seminar Chair Report - Char Bucher

Paula Leopold has offered to give us a lovely free zoom class in colored pencils.  The class will be offered on Oct 3rd from 10 to  12. She has designing a brand new picture of fall leaves just for us.  If you wish to sign up for this event, please send you name to me as soon as possible so that instructions can be sent to you by email.   We are so blessed to have this opportunity!

The paper used for this project is Mi-Teintes paper and the color is burgundy.  You can buy the 8.5” x 11” size at Guiry’s.  Hobby Lobby should have this color, but they only carry the larger sheets.  It is very inexpensive.  A full sheet is under $2.00 at Hobby Lobby.  Paula will let us know what colored pencils are needed as the date becomes closer.
Happy penciling!

Travel Teacher Seminar Chair Report - Melinda Barnes
