On this upcoming Indigenous Peoples' Day, Campus Compact Mountain West will focus the 2017 Engaged Scholars Summit on place-based engagement and scholarship that honors indigenous knowledge and learning. As a network of higher education institutions dedicated to the public good, we recognize the importance of elevating local knowledge and expertise alongside those of higher education practitioners. The Summit will explore:
- How do we prioritize local and indigenous ways of knowing as our communities navigate record population growth and attendant consequences?
- How do Colorado and Wyoming campuses approach research, teaching, outreach, and engagement that incorporate knowledge generated with/in local communities?
- How do campus and community partnerships recognize and build upon local or indigenous knowledge and the focus on place-based engagement?
Join us on October 9th to explore these questions and hear from practitioners in the field as they've integrated indigenous knowledge and place-based engagement into their own scholarship and practice.
