2017 Engaged Scholars Summit

OCTOBER 9th          10am-3pm          DENVER, CO

On this upcoming Indigenous Peoples' Day, Campus Compact Mountain West will focus the 2017 Engaged Scholars Summit on place-based engagement and scholarship that honors indigenous knowledge and learning. As a network of higher education institutions dedicated to the public good, we recognize the importance of elevating local knowledge and expertise alongside those of higher education practitioners. The Summit will explore:

  • How do we prioritize local and indigenous ways of knowing as our communities navigate record population growth and attendant consequences?
  • How do Colorado and Wyoming campuses approach research, teaching, outreach, and engagement that incorporate knowledge generated with/in local communities?
  • How do campus and community partnerships recognize and build upon local or indigenous knowledge and the focus on place-based engagement?

Join us on October 9th to explore these questions and hear from practitioners in the field as they've integrated indigenous knowledge and place-based engagement into their own scholarship and practice.

Facilitators

Dr. Eryka Charley is Director of Native American Student Services at the University of Northern Colorado.
Dr. Chris Nelson is Assistant Professor in the Higher Education Program, Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver.
