March 2022 Round-up

Hello my fellow Crafters & Sewers! If you are new this month, welcome!

So, about a year or more ago, I came across a technique that I thought looked just wonderful. It was the StarTrek logo cut out somehow and sewn around in an outline. I saved the picture to my phone to remind myself to try it someday. Well, I finally decided to figure out what it was and how it was done. The first problem was I didn't know what it was called to even search for, lol.  Finally hit on the right description in google and turns out it is called reverse appliqué!

After further research and practice, I finished my first successful reverse appliqué project using my Cricut Maker to cut out the letters. Since I needed something to put it on, so I also put together a quick little round-bottom Easter basket. I'm quite pleased with how it all came together in the end. My blog post includes both the basket instructions and how I did the reverse appliqué - warning its a long post, but I added links to jump around the text if you want to.

I also started sewing up a bag set for my daughter and she does love herself some red! Next up for the set is the Crocus Oil Pouch - a free pattern from Blue Calla Sewing Patterns. And it is just so darn cute!

As well as adding some fabric stores and bag making resources, I went through my Canadian HTV resources list this month and updated some of the links. Hope you find them useful. If you have a suggestion for any of the lists on my site, don't forget to let me know by email.

In the meantime, as the nicer weather approaches, I'm trying to find crafts that I can take on the go while soaking up the sun. I hope my sewing machines don't miss me too much, but I can't really take them outside with me. Maybe its just time to settle into some great books instead. Have to see what's out there.

Cheers,
Fran

The Lauren Bag in Red Vinyl

The Lauren Bag pattern is from the wonderful Lauren Mormino (moremeknow.com). It was one of the first full size bags I ever made and I still find it so satisfying and quick to sew up!
