Dear Family of Faith –

The Elders were privileged to share an update with the body recently on the many ways God is working in our church.  Since not everyone was available to join us in person, we wanted to provide a recap of what was shared on Sunday, Feb. 27.

Our vision is to build a healthy staff, ministering on a well-functioning campus, to train and mobilize our people to increasingly make the gospel known both here and around the world.

Continue reading and rejoice with us as we give God the glory for our recent progress in the key areas of staff development, campus investment and gospel advancement.

In Him,
Steve Jackson

Staff Development

A Familiar Face Steps Up to Lead FSM

With Jared Kinglsey accepting a full-time Bible faculty position at The Master’s University, we are excited to have him pass the baton of Faith Student Ministries leadership to Elijah Kellogg.

Elijah is well known as a worship leader and Global Partner overseas, but he is well seasoned in youth ministry. He has spent four years as a student ministries associate at Grace Baptist Church, as well as an additional four years as Pastor of Student Ministries and Worship at South Valley Church in Newhall.

Much of Elijah’s fruitful ministry cross-culturally was working with young people and since he has returned, he has spoken at our youth camps, led worship for our youth group and even started a discipleship group with some of our students. This position blends all of his passions and he is excited about merging outreach with our youth.

Elijah is set to begin his new full-time role as Associate Pastor of Student Ministries, Worship and Outreach on April 1.

Increasing Staff Support

To ensure continued excellence in worship, FSM and local outreach, we plan to provide additional staff support for Elijah.  We believe we can do all this without increasing our current staffing budget. We would be taking three currently budgeted part-time positions as well as one currently budgeted full-time position and reallocating those hours to work in these critical areas.

Campus Investment

Now Open: 3rd Floor Office Wing

Our staff moved in to their new offices on the third floor at the beginning of the new year. We added seven new offices, counter and cubicle work spaces for up to 8 people, and a conference/meeting room. This major project was made possible through the estate of our beloved former member Catherine Vernon who went home to be with the Lord at the end of 2012, and we are thankful that God provided the resources for this much-needed expansion.

Coming Soon: New Classrooms

With the new offices open on the third floor, we can begin work immediately on converting the old office space into new classrooms. We will add two new classrooms that can accommodate 35 students each or be combined to make a classroom/meeting room for up to 70 people. The added space will be ready in June and provide classroom space for all current ministries and position us for new ministries we see on the horizon. Once this project is completed, we will be using every square inch of this building to its maximum capacity!

Gospel Advancement

Thanks to Elijah’s leadership, we have developed three local outreach teams.

Matthew Team

Inspired by the story of Matthew, who after following Jesus made a great feast in his house inviting all his tax collecting friends to interact with Jesus and the disciples, we want to schedule monthly “Matthew Parties” where you can bring non-believing friends to hang out with the church and see what kind of conversations and ministry might occur.

Samuel Team

Like Hannah, whose prayer to the Lord for a child was answered with the birth of her son Samuel, this team focuses on protecting the sanctity of life. It connects us with the SCV Pregnancy Center, encourages our families who are fostering or adopting, and seeks to support others in our community planning to foster or adopt.

Philip Team

Modeled after Philip, who brought the gospel to Samaria and the Ethiopian Eunuch, this team focuses on ministering to international people groups in the greater Los Angeles Area. In partnership with Home for Refugees, 18 individuals from FCC committed to provide care for at least one Afghan refugee family that has settled in Santa Clarita. They will walk with these families for their first year here in the United States helping them to find employment, get drivers licenses, learn to shop, and all the other necessary skills to adjust to their new lives here.

A Note About Giving

Those who watch our giving trends know that we continue to lag behind our budget needs.

We are 8 months into our fiscal budget and we are approximately $50,000 below budget in our giving. We project that if nothing changes between now and the end of June we will end the year with a $90,000 to 100,000 deficit.

We have seen God faithfully provide in similar circumstances, and we believe that can happen again this year.
  • If you have not yet begun to give to the ministry of this church, we ask that you prayerfully and purposely decide to begin giving.
  • If your giving has not been consistent, consider a new resolve to faithfully and regularly give.
  • If you committed to increase your giving or give an additional one-time gift when we originally brought Elijah on staff and you have yet to follow through with that commitment, we ask you to do so.
  • If God has blessed you in surprising or abundant ways this year, consider giving a special one-time gift to express your gratitude for God’s generosity.
If we all do our part, we can ensure the needs of this church are met and the ministry continues to flourish for His glory.

Be in Prayer

Please join us in praying for successful transitions as we move ahead with planned changes.
  • Pray for Faith Student Ministries
  • Pray for Elijah as he adjusts to new responsibilities and time commitments.
  • Pray for the students as they learn to follow a new leader.
  • Pray for God’s continued financial provision.
