Newsletter Issue 6: The Paradox and Gift of Shame
We've all known shame, our faces turning red with embarrassment and exposure, wanting to hide under the nearest rock. But shame is a wide open door to discovering the wonder of Jesus' love. I've learned to welcome shame, honoring the need I've suppressed and spreading it out before Father for fulfillment. Who would have thought shame was such a great paradoxical gift!

When children experience unbearable pain, their minds are fed lies that become strongholds which act to suppress the truth and lock in the pain while they lock out the fulfillment of their need. Faith and trust are needed to face shame, fear and guilt quietly before Father who longs to unlock these strongholds and set us free.
Shame is Just Backwards

It’s odd how the soul works. We often feel shame, and then contempt, when our healthy relational needs are exposed before others, and like a bug in the kitchen we scurry under the nearest rock (or cabinet) and hide. When we harm others, on the other hand, we feel justified in blaming the other with contempt when we should feel shame.
Our need for love is revealed and we feel shame. An angry response and we feel smug. Father wants to reverse this. The Spirit’s gentle conviction leads us to repentance, a proper response to our harmful, unloving actions, exposing legitimate shame. And our exposed, tender needs that elicit shame He wants to gently hold and fulfill, not blast with contempt,  to have us nurtured and protected so our hearts can get healed.
How does He reverse this doubly damaging pattern? We learn to identify and hold our needs out to Him and trusted others when shame floods us, not running under a rock or attacking others (this requires significant training in this heart-denying culture).   Read More
We frequently have struggling people call us for help that they cannot afford. While we do offer a sliding scale for those with demonstrated financial need, often even a minimum payment is too much. A generous offering of $100 will provide a needy client with 2 desperately needed sessions. We already tithe a lot by offering low payment options--we need your help to make needed services more available to those in need in our community. Thanks for considering them in your giving plans.
