Back to School Programs for Busy Parents

Greetings! I'm Missy Castaneda, Guest Services Supervisor at the Community Center. With back to school time just around the corner, our family is savoring the last few weeks of summer break while also preparing for school and new activities for fall. As a busy mom, I am always mindful of how I can best support my kids in our community. We have taken advantage of so many programs offered by Parks and Recreation. Little Rec Care and our Junior Rec Club provide fun and social connection for children while parents get time for themselves. Swimming and Climbing Wall programs help build skills and self-confidence. Our Community Art Center offers classes that nurture kids' creativity. Athletic programs are a great way to foster teamwork and fitness. We even provide inclusive, adaptive programs that help all kids, regardless of physical or intellectual abilities. Let us help you find the perfect after-school options for your kids!

Athletics and Outdoor Recreation

Back-to-School is here and that means fall sports are just around the corner.  The Adult Softball Leagues will get underway this week, and Adult Flag Football and Soccer registration is underway.  The Youth NFL Flag Football registration is open, and the league will begin in September.  Plans are underway for our indoor sports as we wrap up the summer sports and being our fall offerings.  Don’t see what you are looking for?  Check out our website or give us a call at (970) 384-6318 and let our team help.

NFL Flag Coed Football (Ages 5-14) 

Grab your cleats and do your stretches, NFL Flag is officially here!  Each player will be provided with reversible NFL Flag jersey (players to keep) and Flags (players to keep).  Games will be played in a 5 on 5 format and divisions will be in two-year age increments: 5-6 / 7-8 / 9-10 / 11-12 / 13-14.  Our Fall season will begin in September and conclude the end of October.  Games will be played on Saturday. 

Adult Flag Football 

This year we will offer both Men’s and Women’s 5v5 Flag Football.  We will be playing with modified NFL Flag rules that are being utilized by our youth program.  Games will be played on Saturday. 

Adult Soccer 

We are happy to bring Adult Soccer Leagues back to Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation.  We will offer Coed, Men's, and Women's Leagues on Sunday at Sullivan Park.  The leagues will play 7v7 utilizing a smaller field.

Climbing Wall

Back to school modified hours beginning Monday August 15th for staffed climbing.  August 1st is National Rock Climbing Day, come and explore the wall with expert tips from our climbing team, crafts, and prize drawings! Adaptive climbing harness now available to accommodate all abilities. Contact to coordinate an adaptive session.


Safe, convenient and enjoyable exercise opportunities. The center features a Cardio & Strength Balcony, an Indoor Track, a Fitness Studio, and an Indoor Cycling Studio. See our Fitness Class options here.

Little Rec Care

Back to school modified hours beginning Monday August 15th for Rec Care. Join us for an Explorer Member Ice Cream Social thanking our families for a wonderful summer! Little Rec Room on August 5th from 12:30pm-1:30pm.

Our Summer Little Rec Special Events are coming to an end, don't miss Little Rodeo in August! Summer Junior Rec Club is continuing until August 11th, space still available many days.

Silver Adult Programs 

Older Adults will find social, wellness, fitness and road trip opportunities.  Board games, Bingo and Bridge are favorites. Expert fitness instructors are prepared to meet your fitness needs.

Community Art Center

Did you know that taking time to look and talk about art can positively impact our lives? For example, dialogue is a powerful conversation that can happen among friends or strangers. Sharing your views about an artwork and listening to theirs can open minds and build respect for different perspectives. Learning to listen with care and disagree respectfully are essential skills in today’s world.  Take a moment to notice an artwork and spark up a conversation with someone.  Consider the Community Center or the Glenwood Springs downtown core as rich places to start.  You will be amazed by what you discover.

Whether you are art curious or looking to build on your artistic skills and practice, the Community Art Center at 601 E. 6th Street is an educational space that provides children and adults ongoing opportunities to connect and engage with art and culture. Adaptive Climbing Wall

The Community Center Rock Climbing Wall now has adaptive climbing gear to allow people of all abilities and ages the opportunity to climb! If you or someone you care for is living with a disability and would like to try adaptive climbing, email to book a time! 

Fall Special Olympics

We are seeking athletes, unified partners, and volunteer coaches to join our fall Special Olympics teams. We will be offering volleyball and flag football starting in mid-September. Registration closes Monday, August 15th
