June 19, 2019 When Life Gets Windy “But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out His hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Matthew 14:30-31 NLT
Along with all the other disciples, Peter first fears the figure looming in the night, walking on the waves toward their boat. When Jesus reassures them that He is the one walking out there, Peter wants a piece of the action too. But when Peter takes his eyes off Jesus and sees the wind and the waves, Peter begins to sink. So Jesus reaches out and catches him. Peter got distracted from faith by his frustrations and insecurities and temptations. Jesus challenges Peter’s lack of faith, but then helps him into the boat. Peter gets a second chance, and he will also need more. Thank God for the many second chances. My weakness is covered by His strength.
Prayer: Almighty God, my eyes may get distracted by the wind and the waves, but help me to get back on track so I can see you. Help me to stay focused on You alone. I need your strength every day, In Jesus Name, Amen.
