Hello <<First Name>>

And a happy new year!

Whether you’ve just started volunteering with the Ramblers or you’ve been volunteering for years we wanted to start the year by thanking you for everything you did for the Ramblers in 2016.

Together we achieved great things.

It wouldn’t be possible without you
We want to make sure that every volunteer knows what we’re all working towards and how everyone contributes towards it.

So we’ve updated the volunteer welcome booklet. It contains all the basic information you, and other volunteers, need to make sure your volunteering is enjoyable and productive. It outlines the way we should all work together to make a positive difference for the Ramblers and for every walker.

Expanding and sharing your volunteer skills
It’s really important that you have the right skills, knowledge and ability for your role. That’s why we’re running a series of Ramblers Roadshows throughout 2017.

By April roadshows will have been to Chelmsford, Newbury, Honiton, Keynsham, Buxton, Leeds and Woodhouse.  More venues across GB are coming soon.  Whether you're just taking your first steps or are a regular volunteer with the Ramblers you'll find a workshop for you. Sign up here.

Getting ready for the future: group and area support survey
You should recently have received an email about an important survey.  We’re asking all group and area volunteers to take part. Your answers will make a big difference in helping us improve support for our area and group volunteers. Have your say. The survey is open until Friday 31 March.

We’re inviting responses from individual volunteers, and collective responses from group and area committees. If you didn’t receive the email for any reason more information is here

We can’t promise to provide everything everyone asks for, and improvements will take time to introduce but your responses will help determine which improvements will be most effective. We’ll share the findings in autumn 2017 including the timeframes for some improvements.

Recognising volunteers
It’s really important that every volunteer feels valued and sees the positive outcomes of their work. One way of recognising a Ramblers volunteer is to nominate them for a certificate or commendation  and then organising a presentation for them.

Certificates and commendations recognise people who have made a particular impact on behalf of the Ramblers. If you know somebody who you think should be recognised go to our nomination form. There are three rounds a year. The current round of nominations closes on 30 January.

There’s also still time to vote in our national volunteer awards. The annual awards recognise special volunteers - or groups of volunteers - for their outstanding contributions to the Ramblers and walking. Whether that’s inspiring people to walk or helping to protect and expand the places we all love to walk.  The vote closes on 20 January.

Don’t forget to let us know about any committee changes
And a special note to committee volunteers. To help us get the right information to the right people, we need to know your current volunteer roles. As we are in the middle of the AGM season it’s important that we receive your change of officer form for your group/area committee roles. We can then update the relevant records and make sure you get the information that is relevant to you.

Please also ensure your new committee members, in particular membership secretaries, are familiar with the data protection guidance.

Thank you
