Hello

We hope everyone's doing well and you've been enjoying some beautiful autumnal walks. Here are some updates for everyone volunteering their time with the Ramblers:

Brand, website and more | In the last volunteering update the chair of the board of trustees, Rebecca Dawson, introduced some of the exciting developments coming up in the new year - including the Ramblers brand and values, the new Ramblers website, and the new Walks Manager. We'll be sharing more information and resources in these updates and to kick us off, you'll find an update on area and group webpages today.

AGMs | To everyone currently planning and delivering their AGMs, we hope they go well! Remember there is AGM guidance on the main Ramblers website and it includes information about how to update volunteer roles after your meetings.

Walk your Way in Winter | The Ramblers winter digital campaign will begin in November,  encouraging everyone to embrace the festive season on foot in good company. We’ll be posting inspiration and challenges on all our social media channels and we would love to share what groups are doing over the colder months too. Make sure you tag the Ramblers and use the #WalkYourWay hashtag if you're uploading pictures of your fabulous winter walks.

Walk Leader Conversations | Don't forget, Walk Leader Conversations take place every month and are an opportunity for walk leaders to come together and chat about what's important to them. Check your calendar in Assemble for upcoming dates.

Online sessions for new walk leaders | We have sessions for new walk leaders, or anyone interested in finding out about the role. Share the Eventbrite booking link with anyone who might be interested.
Group walks | Ideas for volunteers from volunteers

Ramblers groups do an amazing job of organising and leading safe and enjoyable walks - and it’s been great to hear about all the fantastic work you've been doing to keep everyone walking during the past 18 months. Now we can enjoy looking forward a little more, there are lots of ideas out there that we can share and use to continue making group walks even better.

Over the summer, volunteers from across GB came together as a special interest group (SIG), to share their experiences of what’s been working well in their groups and areas. We’ve brought together their ideas into a booklet which you can find on the Document Hub.

These are ideas that other volunteers have found worked for them. You may be doing some of them already, but we hope there’s something new in there for everyone! We'll provide resources and examples of these ideas in practice over the coming year.

Update | Your new area and group webpages

Every area and group will have its own page on the new Ramblers website. These pages will be a brilliant place to show both potential and current members who you are and what you do. As we prepare for the initial launch of the website in early 2022, we'll work with you to get your content ready for these pages.

In November, volunteers such as webpage editors, who are involved in maintaining area and group webpages, will receive an email about getting your pages updated. This email will include:
  • Timelines for work taking place and when we need content
  • An online content collection form with a supporting guidance document
  • An invitation to drop-in sessions
We're looking forward to working on these pages with you - look out for the email if you are involved with your group or area webpages on the main Ramblers website.
