Trinity Alumni News
Vol. 1, Issue 1, October 2016
2016-2017 School Year Theme: Prayer
Theme Verse: " Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances;for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
This newsletter is our way of reconnecting with the people that grew up at Trinity. Afterall, Trinity’s alumni know the school best.  You know what a great experience it was for you.  You also know what a unique opportunity Lutheran education offers for children.  It offers not only academics that prepare them for life in whichever career they choose, but also with a firm foundation for their faith.  We want a stronger connection with you.  We want you to share the name of Trinity with friends and pray for us.  Trinity has changed since you attended, but it still remains a place for strong academics and strong faith.
One visible thing that has changed is the logo.  To the left you see the new logo for Trinity.  It shows the Bible on which we base our beliefs, the circle with three parts showing the holy Trinity as one entity, but three parts, and most importantly it shows the cross of Christ in the middle of it all.  That’s what it is all about, isn't it?  Basing and building everything on the relationship we have with Christ, as our Savior.  For most of us, that began at Trinity.
Thank you, Alumni.  You are a vital part of our school's mission to love families to Christ is a strong, Christian, academic environment.

-Matt Riley
 Principal
Meet the New Principal
Matt earned his bachelor’s degrees in theology and German from Valparaiso University, and his master of education degree in Leadership in Literacy from the University of Sioux Falls.  He has taught on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and in Rapid City elementary schools in western South Dakota for the past 6 years.  He also had the opportunity to open and direct the Lakeview Villages site while serving as one of the program directors at Lakeview Ministries.  Matt met his wife, Jenn, when they were students at Valpo.  Matt and Jenn have three children: Kati and Elli (6), and Nate (4).  He is looking forward to contributing to the ministry here at Trinity.
His major focuses and goals for Trinity are: increasing student success, increasing parental involvement in the school, developing a solid professional development system for teachers, and growing the relationship between church and school.

Successful Project Funding

In August we held a quick four week fundraising drive to raise money for an emergency notification system.  We currently have no way to broadcast news of an emergency situation to all classrooms at once.  We go from class to class alerting rooms of dangerous situations.  With alumni support and the support of many other friends of Trinity we raised about $5,500.  We will use the money to purchase two-way radios for each classroom and a p.a. system that can announce emergency situations in the hallway.  With this equipment, we are better prepared to face emergency situations when they arise.  Another aspect of our project is teacher and student education on our new emergency procedures.  Keep us in your prayers as we work together to protect our children from the growing uncertainties of life.
Alumni Spotlight
Suzanne Denecke ('76) was given the honor of Lutheran High School's Alumnus of the Year.  We are proud that she is a Trinity Trojan!  Here is what Lutheran wrote in their newsletter:
"Suzanne Erdmann Denecke was one of the 13 students that started Lutheran High School. She graduated in 1980 with a class of seven (senior yearbook portrait at right). She married her high school sweetheart, Art Denecke, who graduated from Lutheran the same year.  Suzanne and Art have two sons who also graduated from Lutheran – Adam in 2006 and Andy in 2010.  In her nomination it was noted, “Suzanne is a wonderful example of sharing God’s love.  She lives her faith and continues teaching children of God’s love.”  Currently, Suzanne is a Teacher’s aide for Kindergarten at Trinity Lutheran School, where she has worked for 27 years. She also sings in the praise band and plays handbells. She is shown in the photo below with husband, Art, and LHS Head of School, Michael Brandt."

How can I be

You can be involved in a number of ways.  The most major way that you can stay involved in Trinity Lutheran School is to offer up prayer for continued blessings for our students, parents, and staff.  We have been blessed over the years with students and families, dedicated staff, and generous friends.  Another way to be involved is by making donations of time and money.  We are always looking for volunteers to supervise lunch and recess, so that our teachers can have a break during the day.  We are also looking for volunteers to help read to classes and serve as room volunteers.  If you haven't heard, Trinity Lutheran Church and School is in a tough place, financially.  Donations to the school can help in many ways.  Donations help to continue to pay teachers, reimburse some of the money that teachers pour into their classrooms, and further our programs that promote attendance, strong reading, and Christian character.
However you feel called to support Trinity, know that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love and support.
