Hello, <<First Name>>!

It’s been gorgeous writing in the lovely New England fall, though a little strange as it’s currently summer in Sword Catcher, winter in Chain of Iron, and, well, are there seasons in Hell? Because that’s where we are currently in Lost Book of the White! I’ve had times before in the past when I’ve been working on multiple books at once, but doing three at one time is a unique challenge. As you might imagine, my schedule is pretty tightly structured! I’ll still be finding time to go out and support my BFF Holly Black on the first stop of her tour for Queen of Nothing. Pop by to see us! I’ll be signing books and interviewing Holly with hard-hitting questions about the kitten she recently adopted.

Tuesday, November 19th - 7:00pm

An Unlikely Story
111 South St
Plainville, MA 02762
Tickets required

To celebrate the much-anticipated release of QUEEN OF NOTHING, Holly Black is coming to An Unlikely Story! She’ll be in conversation with fellow YA fantasy legend Cassandra Clare. (This is from Holly’s website. I did not describe myself this way!)

We will discuss Holly’s new book, answer fan questions, and sign copies. I’ll be interviewing her, and you can also grab my books from home or at the store if you want me to sign too. Tickets include a copy of Queen of Nothing!

The Last Hours

Our Last Hours portrait series continues: Thomas Lightwood by Charlie Bowater!

Which is fitting, as young Thomas appears in the next flash fiction story, coming to you by newsletter on November 1. Here’s a snippet!

James also seemed mostly intrigued by the noise and lights, giggling and yelping at the merry scene around them. A London boy from birth, thought Gideon, and then thought, well, but I was a London boy from birth, and this is too much commotion for my liking. For his own part, Thomas was quiet, watching with wide eyes, clutching onto his father’s shoulders. Gideon wasn’t sure how weakened Thomas still was from the last fever and how much he was overwhelmed by the crowds. In some ways, when he wasn’t sick, Thomas could be guilt-inducingly easy to care of; he rarely made a fuss, just looked out into the world with those large hazel eyes, as if aware of his own helplessness and hoping not to be noticed.

Exclusive excerpt from Lost Book of the White:

Alec took note. “I don’t much like being looked at like the enemy here,” he said. “We’re all on the same side, Shadowhunters and Downworlders.”

Jace quirked an eyebrow. “I believe the Clave’s official position is that we are on opposite sides.”

“It’s ridiculous,” said Clary. “How many faeries were actually on Sebastian’s side in the war? The Queen, her court—it must be a tiny percentage of them. But we’ve punished them all.”

“They’ve punished them all,” said Simon. “We haven’t done anything. We tried to prevent the Cold Peace.”

“As long as we can explain that to each of them individually, I’m sure we’ll be fine,” said Jace.

“Maybe we could get t-shirts made,” Simon agreed. “’We Tried to Prevent the Cold Peace.’”
