Online Voter Registration
|
|
Yesterday, I delivered the Weekly Republican Radio Address. The address highlighted the state’s online voter registration system and encouraged citizens to register to vote. This week, both the Republican address and Democratic address highlighted the state’s voter registration website: myvote.wi.gov.
Online voter registration was launched in 2017 thanks to a bill authored by Sen. Kathy Bernier (R-Chippewa Falls) and myself. In the first three years alone, the Wisconsin Elections Commission has recorded more than 242,000 electronic voter registrations:

The law (2015 WI Act 261) expands access to the polls by replacing the need for paper registration forms. At the same time, it makes our elections more secure by using technology to clean-up the state’s voter list.
On myvote.wi.gov, voters can quickly and easily check if they are registered, update their information, or register to vote for the first time. All you need is a valid Wisconsin drivers’ license or state-issued ID.
Although the process is easier than ever, voters shouldn’t wait: The deadline to register online is Wednesday, October 14th. However, if this deadline is missed, eligible voters can still use same day registration to register at the polls on Election Day.
For more information on registering to vote, visit myvote.wi.gov. For other voting deadlines for the November election, click here.

Unemployment Rate Drops to 7.0%
|
|
Yesterday, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced that the state unemployment rate fell again. The July rate fell to 7.0% from 8.6% as the state added 25,500 private-sector jobs.
Both the state’s unemployment rate and the labor force participation rate are better than the national average. The national unemployment rate is 10.2%. Wisconsin’s labor force participation rate is 64.9%, while the national rate is 61.4%.
