Season’s Greetings OLLI Members!
OLLI Offices will be closed for the holidays from Thursday, December 24, 2020 thru Friday, January 1, 2021. Offices will re-open at 9:00 am Monday, January 4, 2021. If you need assistance during this time email
*** Happy Holidays! ***
Winter/Spring Registration is Now Open!
You can click the image below to view the PDF of the OLLI Winter/Spring catalog. If you have not yet received your Winter/Spring catalog in the mail, it will be arriving soon!

Online registration remains open during the time OLLI offices are closed.
The initial registration period will run from 9:00am Monday, December 14 to 4:00pm Monday, January 11. You can register at any time during this period and receive equal consideration for classes that become oversubscribed.

All oversubscribed study groups and Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) will be subject to a lottery to give everyone an equal chance to get in. Early registration does not increase your chances.

Everyone who applies for programs that become subject to the lottery will be notified of the outcome by Thursday, January 14.

Members who are not selected will be given refunds, placed on a wait list, and invited to join if space becomes available. Our goal is to issue the refunds during the week after the lottery.

Registration for classes that are not full will still be possible after January 14.

As before, you can register on-line or by mail. (The preferred method for registration for this term is online since staff ability to process mailed registrations is more limited due to COVID-19)

All payments must be made at the time of registration.
Questions about registrations or paying the annual $25 fee? Please contact the OLLI office via e-mail at or by phone at (734) 998-9351.
Scholarships are available for membership and all programs. To request a scholarship, please contact the OLLI office via e-mail at or by phone at (734) 998-9351.
Confused about your OLLI Subscriptions!
Help is here (and online at

1. Sign into to the OLLI website and click on the HISTORY tab.  Each item you paid for is listed with the beginning and end dates for that item.
2. Then go to the Course Catalog to see the specific dates of the items you purchased.
3. Study groups generally last for just one semester, so each semester you need to register for the relevant term’s programming.
4. Lecture series:  in the fall you had choices of purchasing single lecture series or single lectures.
5. If you purchased a “lecture package” last fall, this included all fall and winter/spring lectures AND the Summer lecture series.
6. If you did not purchase a package of lecture series during the fall, you can purchase individual lecture series at this time.
7. OLLI has a number of free programs and lectures, all listed in the Course Catalog.  Please look at those – any and all OLLI members can attend these offerings.

OLLI 2021 Virtual Open House
Wednesday January 6th

Please share an Aha! moment -- a discovery -- you've had through an OLLI experience.  Click the link below, describe your discovery and hit the arrow to post it for others to enjoy!   Signatures appreciated, but not required.   Thanks for sharing your discovery!

OLLI’s 2021 Virtual Winter Open House on January 6 is exploring the process of . . .  discovering.  We’ll see through Dr. Brian Worthmann’s presentation that discoveries often happen in science.  We know, though, that discoveries take other forms . . . that they also happen in OLLI thanks to the learning and member engagement opportunities throughout the year.

If you would like more information about Michigan Medicine resources during this challenging time, please reach out to OLLI Director Lisa Barton at 734-998-9356 or She will be happy to connect you.

Please remember OLLI’s Video Catalog is still available. Access is available for a small cost. Click on the link below to connect you!

Check the online Commons calendar frequently at Click on an event or session to learn which OLLI is hosting it, who the presenter is, what will be happening and to find the link to log in. All events or sessions are free to members of the four OLLIs and their guests. Registration is never required- just click and join!
Don’t miss the December 29 – January 1 events!
Check for details on the Commons calendar --

December 29   10 – 11am     OLLI-UMICH:   A Virtual Tour of the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA)
Presenters:  Docents Lynn Boyer and Robin Little
This tour introduces you to art from UMMA’s permanent collection located on its grounds and within the three floors of its galleries. The tour is shown through powerpoint with the images collected from UMMA’s online Exchange portal.  They are all objects that the presenters have toured with children and adults through UMMA’s extensive outreach to schools and the community.  The artworks include Rodin, Monet, Whistler, Picasso, Tiffany, Giacometti, Nevelson as well as the new public sculpture Behind the Walls by the Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. Audio only dial: 1-312-626-6799 Meeting ID: 955 7490 2503

December 29    1 – 2:30pm   OLLI-WMU:   Afternoon at the Theater
OLLI at Western Michigan University hosts an afternoon of two plays presented by an ongoing member theater group.  There will be a talk back after the conclusion of the second play.  The Commons will be open beyond 2:30pm if participants wish to remain and continue the conversation. Audio only dial: 1-312-626-6799 Meeting ID: 955 7490 2503

Play #1   HOUSEKEEPER WANTED:  When sisters Patsy and Mary decide it’s time to step in and hire a housekeeper to protect their inheritance, Dad surprises them both with an idea or two of his own.

Play #2   EVACUATION:  :  When you need to evacuate because a hurricane is fast approaching and the cruel finger of fate sticks you in a rundown pick up camper with your aging parents who’ve been estranged for decades…..well you might just decide that being blown away isn’t such a bad idea after all.

December 30    1 – 2pm    OLLI-UM:  The Schmoozery: At Our Age, In This Age.  A facilitated conversation
Hank Greenspan, Ph.D.  Psychologist, essayist, oral historian, playwright, and lifelong committed schmoozer
The Schmoozery: At Our Age, In This Age is a facilitated conversation in which participants are invited to share stories and reflections about aging, generations, hopes, and related topics in “uncertain times.” The specific issues and themes are less important than the chance to learn from each other’s experiences and insights in these times—and perhaps in any times.  That is, the goal is to have the best possible schmooze about things that matter. Audio only dial: 1-312-626-6799 Meeting ID: 955 7490 2503

January 1     4:30 – 5:30pm   OLLI-UM

Erika Pratt                   AJ Davidson

Erika Pratt from Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation will present a talk on winter walking and connecting with nature in Ann Arbor. She will share these opportunities and explore the benefits of park related recreation, relaxation and adventure. Erika promises to motivate members to get outside this winter and bring nature into their lives.

Literary Short Fiction
A New SIG (Shared Interest Group) Opens January, 2021
A SIG brings people together who have a common interest that they wish to pursue indefinitely within a structure of meetings/activities designed primarily by the members of the group.  SIGs have no formal ending date and may be active year-round.

This new shared interest group will be a weekly assembly of fans of this genre to identify, read and discuss, in a sustained relationship, works of literary short fiction.  These will include a mix of short fiction classics and contemporary masterpieces, pulled mostly from the New Yorker.

SIG Facilitator:  Deb Mukherjee
Proposed start date:  January 20, 2021

Registration opens for all OLLI Winter activities December 14, 2020 thru January 11, 2021. Lottery notifications for any oversubscribed SIGs or Study Groups will be sent to all members by January 14th.
