Destinations Detours and Dreams September 2016

Welcome

Welcome to the inaugural edition of Destinations Detours and Dreams monthly newsletter. Every month I'll provide a glimpse behind the scenes and a sneak peek at what's to come. Plus a recap of the last month's articles. Subscribe to the newsletter here. Feedback and suggestions are welcome. Remember that you can also be notified each time a new post is published by subscribing via email at Destinations Detours and Dreams.

What's Been Happening

After spending most of the first half of 2016 on the road, it's been great to spend the summer at home in Manitoba. I've spent time with family and friends, tended my garden, hosted family from out of town, took in a few local sights, froze strawberries, made dill pickles, read and wrote. I even managed a few days at Falcon Lake in Manitoba's Whiteshell Provincial Park. And I caught up on a lot of work related to the blog, this newsletter being one of the items.

Also new for Destinations Detours and Dreams is a Pinterest page. Check that out here.

What's On The Horizon

Other than a short visit to family on the west coast mid-September, this travel blogger has no upcoming travel plans. I am looking forward to spending more time at home. I always seem to find something new to explore and write about wherever I am, so look forward to a few more Manitoba posts. And I still have several articles about my travels earlier this year to write and publish. More stories from California, Washington, Florida, British Columbia and the Dominican Republic are in the works.

There are also a few new things planned for the blog. Stay tuned.

Do you like doors?

My colleague Irene Levine published an article on her blog More Time to Travel highlighting favourite door photos from a number of bloggers. My photo of the door to the Peace Garden at Woodwynn Farms was included. Read Irene's full article here.

From The Archives

Winnipeg's Armstrong's Point is a small peninsula jutting into the Assiniboine River near the centre of the city. It is a primarily residential area, with homes dating to the 1800s. 73 of the 112 homes are listed as Historically Noteworthy.

On September 11, I plan to take Armstrong's Point Heritage Home Tour. I took a similar tour two years ago and gained a lot of respect for the homeowners who lovingly restored their houses. You can read about that experience at Heritage Homes.
Donna Janke is the author of Destinations Detours and Dreams, where you can find travel stories from near and far, the familiar and the obscure, the beautiful and the bizarre, with a focus on history, gardens, nature, art, architecture, culture and the snowbird life. She tells her stories through a combinations of narrative, photos and personal reflection.

In addition to the monthly newsletter, you can also receive notification each time a new post is published (6 to 9 new posts a month) by subscribing via email on the blog.
