May is not officially Technology Month, as far as we know, but here at IndistarBURST, we are devoting the entire issue to technology for teachers and administrators.
  • We highlight the recent CIL webinar that was devoted entirely to technology. Janet Twyman presented what you wanted to know as expressed through the responses you gave to a survey sent out before the webinar.
  • We feature a great productivity tool for teachers and administrators!
  • Ever heard of INNOpods? If not, read on!
  • Want to communicate more efficiently and effectively with parents? We have some great ideas for you from the School Community Network’s resource page.
Did you miss the webinar on May 10 entitled Leadership and Innovation Series: Using Technology to Enhance Teaching and Learning?  If you did, here’s a link to the archived version. Tune in as Janet Twyman, Director of Innovation & Technology at the Center on Innovations in Learning (CIL), leads a lively and interactive demonstration of many tools, including those for:
  • productivity, organization, and time management
  • presentation design
  • collaboration
  • surveys, and
  • classroom apps.
All that in one hour! Janet is really knowledgeable and talented. Please join her!
How about 5 minutes? We know that teachers and administrators have many projects, meetings, and various tasks to keep track of.
Listen to Janet introduce a great productivity tool, Trello, which acts like a sticky-note board. It’s free and web based so it can be updated from anywhere. And you can archive all your information for easy retrieval!

CIL has another great resource for you – INNOpods. INNOpods are multimedia, self-pacing modules to help you explore the intersection of technology and personalized learning. You have the ability to engage with the INNOpods in a variety of ways that suit your schedule, your location, and your pace of learning.

We want to help you dip your toes into INNOpods. In a three minute video about the Flipped Classroom, you’ll hear a variety of ideas for many curriculum areas and for students who learn at different rates and in different ways. After that you’re on your own and can explore INNOpods anyway that suits you.
To get there :

  • Click this link: Flipped Classroom
  • Once there, close out the window about INNOpod 1
  • Scroll down and click #3 What is the FLIPPED CLASSROOM I Keep Hearing About?
  • Watch the video, The Flipped Class: Is Flipping for Everyone?
  • After that you are on your own to explore the INNOpods.
The School Community Network provides a wide array of parent and school resources.   3 Tech Tips for Parent Newsletters by Monica Burns in Edutopia highlights apps that help classroom teachers communicate with parents. Ms. Burns suggests three apps for the creation of a newsletter and a couple of ways to ensure your newsletter gets to parents.
