The School Community Network offers a broad range of resources for schools, teachers, and families. This month, in preparation for summer vacation, we’re highlighting two resources for families on our Spotlights webpage: “Five Easy Tips for Summer Learning” and “Summer Learning Resources for Parents.” Each have great suggestions for reading, writing, math, exercise, and more to address potential summer learning loss. Both have links to a variety of other helpful resources, and “Summer Learning Resources for Parents” is also available in Spanish.
At the core of the mission of the Center on Innovations in Learning (CIL) is “to improve learning outcomes for all students.” Toward that goal, CIL has created a robust area on Personalized Learning on its website. Personalized learning depends on a teacher’s ability to vary the time, place, and pace of learning, use technology to manage and document learning, and to enlist students in creating learning pathways.
Are you ready to begin your personal journey into Personalized Learning? Begin by exploring INNOpods, our approach that allows you to do for yourself what Personalized Learning does for students: vary the time, place, and pace of your learning, use technology to manage your learning, and put you in charge of your learning pathways.

"This is a story about a district that was already doing pretty well, knew it could do better, but wasn’t exactly sure how to go about it—until they took a few small steps and one pretty giant leap without a single look back.”
So begins the story of what the Salinas Public Schools (Kansas) district office did to create a “systemic, strategic change that focused on instructional and leadership practice.” Read this Success Story--Salina Public Schools, Kansas to find out what your district can do to model effective practices and provide support for its schools. The Salinas Public Schools used Kansas' accreditation model and its own indicators of effective practice embedded in the Indistar platform because they saw the value in the process (building-level conversations and collaborative decision making) and the supports (Wise Ways, a feedback loop, and coaching) provided by Indistar. Whether you use Indistar or another school improvement system, there are lessons to be learned from Salina Public Schools.
Clue Catcher (grades 3-10) is an app that helps build the ability to understand word meaning through context. Students can choose to have key words highlighted in a content-rich sentence, select a question that leads them to think about the meaning, and/or select an answer. Individual grade-level packages or two- or multi-grade bundles are available with 100 words per grade level.  A free introductory package with 5 words per grade level is available to explore its functionality.
