Hello <<First Name>>,

When was the last time you were completely immersed in an activity? In this multi-tasking world of short attention spans I bet it’s not often you experience total involvement in an activity. And when you do don’t you experience the most exhilarating feeling. When you were a kid, this feeling was called play. As an adult, it’s called flow.

I first experienced flow when I was nine while writing a short story about a ghost boy and his ghost dog. Ever since, I’ve tasted the sweet sensation of flow again and again. Flow is the reason I can write this article. It’s the power source for the three books I've published. It’s the driver for my becoming a frequent presenter at industry conferences worldwide. And, most importantly, flow is why I get out of bed in the morning.

When flow happens, time stops and my actions feel effortless. I'm immersed, focused and in the zone.

Do you want to experience flow? Here are three ways to begin to cultivate flow.

1. Be in the moment

Flow lives in the present. Thinking about flow will not help you nor will reading about it. You want to find an activity that’s not too intellectually challenging to immerse yourself in. Some of my favorites are: focusing on the rhythm of my breath, counting backwards from 99 and taking a solitary walk in the woods. The key is to concentrate and not break out of this ever-changing moment.

2. Be authentically you

Flow is a personal experience. You won’t find it looking outside yourself. It helps to be deeply connected to your sensations, thoughts and emotions. Flow bubbles up from your unconscious mind. It’s like a big wave you get on top of and ride for as long as you can.

3. Let go of your destination

Flow detests rigid planning. It loves to move freely and take you on a new path. When in flow, you experience life as a journey of discovery. Your sense of time and self fall away.

Flow is the key to communicating with confidence, creativity and clarity. It’s the path to delivering presentations that are dynamic and engaging. Flow is the driving force for nurturing a culture of team collaboration. Knowing how to use flow strategically can be a game changer for your career or business.

Does this pique your curiosity? Do you want to try something fun and new? I hope so because I’m ready to go on a quest and help you discover the fantastic state of flow.
