June Newsletter

As you all know, we are currently celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada. The National UOCC committee is working hard on hosting a Jubilee to commemorate the Centenary of our church. This ‘Sobor’ will be held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from August 9-12, 2018 at the Saskatoon Inn.
The Extra Ordinary Sobor Committee (EOSC) has been working with the Consistory in planning a program to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada. We welcome all faithful to attend this celebration in Saskatoon, the birthplace of our Church. This will truly be a celebratory Sobor, which will include a resolution commemorating this historic occasion. Parishes are encouraged to send official delegates to participate in this historic Sobor. The remaining focus of this Extra Ordinary Sobor for all delegates and guests, gathered in Christ, will be on renewing and, establishing friendships in the spirit of invigorating our faith and our Church for the next century. Please find the registration package, available on the UOCC website or at We would encourage that this information be distributed to all your parishioners through all your communications channels. Please feel free to contact the undersigned if you have any questions.

This event is coming up very soon! The National CYMK Executive have been working very patiently and diligently with the National Jubilee and Sobor committees. A very exciting and advantageous program has been formulated for our Ukrainian Orthodox Youth of Canada. This includes various Museum tours, visiting Wanuskewin Heritage Park, learning and experiencing the Indigenous culture – through visiting their homes and practicing their cultures, travels to forestry farms and the zoo, and a banquet where we can all share our friendship together.....

Saskatoon CYMK Donation Project
Our CYMKivtsi enjoy donating and volunteering at various charities and homeless shelters. Through good-will and their generosity, they yearn the service and support they were able to provide for those in need. Saskatoon CYMK branch has for the past few weeks been collecting donations of lightly used clothes and money for a shelter called the Friendship Inn. As Friendship Inn stated, “Volunteering as a group is a great chance to make a difference in our community, an opportunity for team building and also gives individuals a chance to try out volunteering together with those you know. They get a glimpse into the community that exists at the Inn.” CYMKivtsi inspire us to be and do better and follow the slogan “Be a Friend!”...

Toronto CYMK Coffee House with MYNO
The Toronto (Long-Branch) Local have long been working closely on hosting a coffee house event for their parish. CYMK Toronto recently held their first coffeehouse in May:
For a first time, the turn out was what was expected. The CYMKivtsi worked extremely hard to prepare and execute the coffeehouse so they were proud of themselves for what they managed to create.
The church hall looked exquisite with their decorations and the spring theme they chose to work with. Flowers, fairy lights and balloons provided a calm, cozy atmosphere where people could relax and enjoy an evening with friends.
There were boardgames, a Photo Booth and an open-mic that gave people many different ways to interact and meet new people. The coffee and snacks provided were delicious and a hit with those who came. Long Branch CYMK may have wished for a bigger turn-out but the event was definitely not wasted. They learned from their mistakes, and marked down their successes.

UCU/CYMK Helps Ukraine Campaign

Following the Revolution of Dignity 2013/14, the fierce battle for Ukrainian Independence and Statehood continues, as the 4th year comes to a close where Ukraine’s armed forces continue to hold the line against Russia and its proxies who have invaded Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region. Ukraine’s favourite sons and daughters continue to be shot at, wounded and killed by Russian artillery and heavy weapons, standing firm against the Muscovite aggressors. Ukraine’s bravest continue to return from the battlefield maimed or worse, while the west waffles in providing Ukraine with much needed lethal defensive weapons.

Beginning in January 2015, staff and members of Ukrainian Credit Union Limited, along with conscientious patriots in the Ukrainian community, have been raising funds to help Ukraine’s wounded soldiers who suffered serious injury withstanding the Russian aggressor on the front lines of Ukraine’s battle for independence.  “UCU Helps Ukraine” was spearheaded by Kateryna Litvinjuk, with Roman Mlynko and Mykhailo Zienchuk playing supporting roles on the committee.
