One Year On
A big thank you to YOU our members for making the July event a massive success..!! The event provided us with an opportunity to reflect on our successes as an alliance over the last year and agree how we can work together to make an even bigger impact in Haringey.

Streetzahead, Homes for Haringey, Smarter Travel, and Tottenham Hotspur Foundation provided us with an update on their pledges to the alliance and their local action to tackle obesity.

The scale of the challenge is not unique to Haringey and London has more overweight children than New York, Sydney, Paris or Madrid. We heard about the conversations that have been happening across London as part of the Great Weight Debate and this included clips from Haringey pupils at Stamford Hill Primary School. The Great Weight Debate will be back with a touring road show across London and we hope they will pass through Haringey.

We know we have a lot of work to do to deliver the vision of the alliance but there was huge amounts of energy, enthusiasm and great ideas in the room. The event galvanised support for a collective approach.  We are collating the feedback from the workshops and this will feature in the next newsletter.

Year of Walking

Get ready for a weekend of walks!
Following on from our successful celebration event (featured in the Haringey Advertiser here), we invite you to join us in taking part in our Walking Weekend on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October 2016. The Walking Weekend will be two eventful days encouraging residents to discover the many wonderful walks we have in the borough. Walking is good for our physical health and emotional wellbeing. If we can combine it with getting out in our parks and green spaces then all the better!

To support the campaign, Friends of the Parks and residents have put together a booklet specifically for the Walking Weekend: download it here. There are twenty walks listed in the brochure which range from ‘Tottenham’s Historical Corridor’ through to ‘Glimpses of Community Empowerment’. Let’s make this weekend a huge success for the council and its residents!
HOA MICROSITE UPDATE: The HOA website is due to go live in the next few weeks. This has been commissioned to boost communications and help us to better coordinate our efforts.

Hari Bear's Big Adventure

To celebrate International Walk to School Month (October 2016) and as part of Haringey's Year of Walking, Smarter Travel are inviting all of the Primary Schools in the borough to take part in Hari Bear's Big Adventure. The adventure will begin on Monday 3rd October in the east of the borough (school TBC) and finish in Highgate Wood on Friday 21st October with schools meeting for activities and a photo opportunity.

The Camera that accompanies Harry Bear will hold a pictorial record of everyone involved and the pictures and messages in the book will be brought together in a montage of Harry Bear’s Big Adventure. We will create a presentation showing our schools messages and pictures and photographs. This we hope will help us move towards a cleaner, safer, healthier borough.

We are looking for organisations that can host future meetings / events. If you have some space that we could use or can assist in any way, please get in contact with us.
