Update: COVID-19 in Guatemala

We know that you may be concerned about the impact of the new coronavirus on our friends in Guatemala. Please be assured that Pura Vida staff are closely monitoring the situation.  So far the outbreak has been limited there, and the country has taken significant measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

We currently do not have reports of any students in our scholarship program diagnosed with COVID-19.  As of today, schools in Guatemala have been suspended for 21 days, from primary to university levels.  The government plans to make up the missed days later in the year.

We have postponed our work trip to Guatemala scheduled for this month.  We will be assessing future trips as they approach.  We will be in contact with team members directly as we learn more.

We want to thank you for your support of our programs in Guatemala.  The fragility of the infrastructure in Guatemala underlines the need for our continued work in the area of education.  Right now our highest priority is protecting those we serve and work with in Guatemala.

Thanks again for your support.  We will be following up soon with more details.

Take care,

Mark Ely
Executive Director
