Guatemalan students and their families need your help now more than ever. Our population is extremely vulnerable to disruptions caused by the virus due to existing economic instability, widespread malnutrition, and poor healthcare infrastructure. Most of our families work informally and are more likely to suffer financially from the fallout. Guatemala simply does not have the resources to provide an economic safety net.
Although in-person classes have been cancelled for April, many of our students are keeping up with their studies via television, radio, and internet. The John Wesley School has been distributing homework on a weekly basis. Our university students are studying online. There is much interest in keeping school going.
We are committed to funding our students this year, regardless of what happens with classes. If school is not in session, those funds can be used to help families make it through the crisis. This will make it more likely that our students will be able to return to school once things have stabilized.
If you would like to give your sponsored student some extra help, you can send a cash gift with the letter delivery scheduled for June 1st.
