Keep Whangarei Beautiful
Date: Monday, 13th September 2021
Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (including a break for morning tea)
Address: Meet at car parks top of Lupton Ave. (off Park Ave just down from Kensington Crossing)
Spare an hour or two to help keep Whangarei looking beautiful :)
How? Join us on Monday 13th September to pick up litter.
Gloves, bags and picker-uppers will be supplied. We’ll walk along the shared path next to the railway line finishing in Rust Ave opposite the library.
The walk takes 20-30 minutes then the same back to the cars.

A Game of Mahjong
Date: Monday, 20th September 2021

This is getting quite addictive! We love our Mahjong and we think you should try it too. Join us for a game of strategy and wit, and experience this old traditional game of Mahjong.
Mahjong is a strategy game that originated in China. It's similar to rummy, but it's played with tiles instead of cards. Generally, you play with 4 people. The goal is to form 4 sets or sequences and a pair, creating Mahjong!
Bring your thinking hats :)

Down on the Farm
Date: Saturday, 25th September 2021

Address: Maungakaramea (address given on booking & payment - online or cash at WINGS office)
Cost: $5 (includes afternoon tea)
Max number: 10
Dress Code: Old, old clothes and gumboots!
Come and share a real-life experience with two Whangarei farmers. Short talk and a chance to pet a cow and milk one. Bring a small jar to take home some fresh milk.
This trip will be for WINGS members only - sorry no children.

Coffee group for people who like a quieter setting. The quiet coffee group meets at Palmer’s cafe in the plant centre at the corner of Central Avenue and Water Street, at 10.30 am, EXCEPT for the last Thursday of the month, when they gather at 11.30 am and have lunch together. Palmers Cafe has a convenient place for free parking.

WINGS Sausage Sizzle
Sausage Sizzle at the Warehouse was another very successful event. We sold 300 sausages over 4 hours. At the end of the day we smelt like barbecued sausages, had very tired feet but left with big smiles as we had been serenaded by a magnificent guitarist with a magical voice. Oh and we also raised money for WINGS!

SHAMA HUI
4 of us attended the SHAMA Hui. We met two amazing young ladies, both migrants into NZ, doing a good job of helping to bring awareness of ‘abuse’, what it is, how to deal with it, where to go for help and how WINGS can help its members if necessary. It was most interesting to hear about the service.
SHAMA run courses and have resources online in different languages.

WINGS Monthly Meeting
The Spectacles Ukulele Band
What a fantastic night of music, singing and some spontaneous dancing at the August theme night.
We were privileged to have the full compliment of these very talented ladies led by Jenni Moore , Manager of Daffodil House serving cancer patients in our community.
We enjoyed an eclectic mix of folk songs, Country and Western, classic pop numbers and a Maori waiata followed by a sumptuous supper prepared by Mina and members.
The raffle raised a considerable sum which was donated to the charity Daffodil House.
