Down on the Farm
We had a lovely day 'down on the farm'. Robyn welcomed us to her home which has an outstanding view across the valley encompassing their farm. After a welcome cuppa and cakes, we learnt about the day and the year of dairy farming. We watched as the cows ambled down to the sheds at a gentle 2kph to be milked. Those interested were welcome to tempt the cows with some feed. Number 140 was very tame and accepted food from our hands. Wellies were a necessity for those wanting to walk amongst the cattle.
We had a look at where the milk is directed after it leaves the cow. The milk is cooled before being stored in some big tanks...

Wednesday Monthly Meeting
We had a wonderful opportunity at the November WINGS meeting to travel back in time to King Henry VIII's court and learn more about life and Christmas celebrations during the Tudor period. Our resident Tudor expert, Sarah, regaled us with tales of sumptuous feasts, descriptions of interesting foods and cooking techniques, stories of rituals and traditions (many of which we still observe today) and some very impressive rules for table etiquette in the 16th-century royal court. Sarah’s knack for story-telling and her passion for all things Tudor made for a fascinating and enlightening presentation, which she continued into the supper with an amazing table setting featuring a large (artificial!) pig and Christmas-themed foliage and decorations. Our thanks must go to Sarah for an informative and entertaining talk and for such an enjoyable evening.

Spring High Tea
A massive thank you to our Whangarei Community for once again supporting us with our High Tea Fundraiser. It was a day filled with lots of happiness and cups of high tea along with delicious home-baked treats.
From the view of assistant Maître de, I was able to experience our Wings high tea. I heard clinks of delicate teacups, tinkles of teaspoons and the hum of contented conversations peppered with laughs. I tasted slithers of cucumber sandwiches, dollops of jam on fresh scones and the pannacotta was divine. I saw flower dresses, summer sandals and feathered hats. I smelt the fresh flowers along with the baking from the kitchens. With four of my five senses satiated with pleasant experiences, I could only feel that the day was a sumptuous success. Five out of five, what a treat, I can’t wait till the next one.
