End of Year Message
The Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry team would like to extend a huge thank you to all that have helped in growing the registry to where it is today. We appreciate your patience and flexibility in a year that has presented all of us with many changes and challenges. Whilst you may not have heard from us as often during 2020, there has been a lot of hard work happening in the background with some very exciting new projects and developments on the horizon. In a bumper first newsletter of 2021, we look forward to updating you on these new developments and reflecting upon the UGICR's achievements in 2020. In the meantime, we'd like to wish everyone a very happy holidays and all the best for the new year.

New UGICR Staff
A warm welcome to our newest UGICR operational team member Dr Hugh Gao. Hugh is working closely with the team to finalise our site quality indicator reports. In semester 2, Gershi Samarasekara from La Trobe University joined the team for an 11 week placement as a part of her final year of a Master of Health Information Management studies. We'd like to thank Gershi for her invaluable work in developing new data quality checking processes for our pancreatic cancer module and developing REDCap reports for a synoptic radiology reporting project that is being led by the Southern Melbourne Integrated Cancer Service (SMICS).

Departing UGICR staff
We also say thank you and goodbye to Alice Sporik, Research Assistant, who has moved to working full-time on the National Gynae-oncology Registry. In 2020, we also say or said goodbye and thank you to a number of our hard working data collectors who have moved on to pursue their careers in medicine: Hamish Evans, Miki Wada, Evelyn Turek, Joanne Au, Julia Shapiro and Maddie Flanagan. We wish all of our departing staff members the best for their future endeavours.
New Collaborations & Data Access Requests
The UGICR’s aim for whole population capture makes it an ideal platform for related tissue banks and registry-based trials. The UGICR now has data for pancreatic, oesophagogastric and biliary cancers.

If you have a project in mind or would like to utilise the UGICR's data - we encourage you to contact UGICR project coordinator Jennifer Holland to discuss further.
