Pedaling as fast as we can...

Librarians joke that Summer Learning is to libraries what the Christmas holiday season is to retailers. Our best laid summer plans have required revisions suitable for the pandemic, so we are pedaling faster than ever to be ready. (How appropriate that we have new bikes from Charity Lodge for prizes...)
We are lucky to have so much community support that allows us to forge ahead with new programs -- both digital and curbside -- and great sponsors who believe in lifelong learning.
This year more than ever, we need to keep learning together in joyful ways so get ready for a fun Summer Learning program, curbside style!

Stay healthy!
Please feel free to contact me any time at
Kind regards, Julie M. Perrin, Library Director - a.k.a. Ms. Julie

Into the Wild: Imagine Your Story

Summer Learning 2020
We have a great Summer Learning program planned, ready to kick off the week of June 15th with special curbside pickups of Summer Learning materials. Get ready to go Into the Wild: Imagine Your Story!

We know you'll miss all the great programs you would normally do at the library, so we are preparing them in kits for you to pick up at curbside and do at home!  Sewing machines, Knitting, Microscopes, Artist Afternoon, Coding, Mad Scientists, Take & Make Crafts....  Our kits bring all the fun to literacy, but if learning isn't enough motivation, we are excited to tell you that our many sponsors are providing great prizes!
  • How do I get started?  SIGN UP HERE!  Yes, that's right, you can sign up online!
  • Then what?  A member of the library staff will call you to set up a curbside pickup appointment for your packet of learning fun.
  • Is it all online?  No!  We want you to get outdoors, which is why our theme is Into the Wild: Imagine Your Story!  We are preparing a mix of activities so you can decide how much screen time you want.  Our new STEAM Kits are designed to give you all you need for off-screen library learning fun, just like we do at our in-library programs.
  • What if I want to be online?  You can be!  All of our virtual programs will also continue!  Visit Library-to-Go any time, 24/7, learn a new language, or download a book or audio.  Your digital library is always available.
  • What about BINGO?  Your library BINGO sheets will be included in your packets.
  • Prizes?  Did you say prizes?  Oh yes, your librarians are finding ingenious ways, thanks to the generosity of our partner organizations, to still provide great reading and learning incentives.

Here are some of our sponsors!  Be sure to thank them when you see them from a safe distance.

No-Touch "Trunk or Table" Curbside Continues

Our first week of curbside is proceeding smoothly.  We are operating on a limited staff, so thanks for your patience as we process all your requests.  It is wonderful to see you from a safe distance, and we hope our crazy outfits make you smile.

Our curbside services follow a reservation procedure that adheres to social distancing requirements.

We have developed a schedule to allow for pick-up times for approximately 90 households per week.  We cannot offer unlimited pick-up times due to the need to maintain staff safety with staggered, limited shifts and the need to preserve PPE.

Our initial schedule will offer pick-up times on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, at least through June 18, after which we will reassess.
We will add times according to demand, as we are are able.
All pick-up times will require a reservation and  a designation of "Trunk" or "Table" pick-up style (explained below).

Here's the plan:
  • Week of June 1 - Pick-up priority for our non-digital patrons and patrons with reserves.  (Place your reserves online via your library account, please.)  This week we will offer standard materials (books, audios, DVDs) AND Ms. Linda's famous curbside Take & Make Crafts -- which you can now reserve via the catalog.  (She has prepped 150 envelopes featuring five different craft projects.)
  • Week of June 8 -- All of the above, plus we will also have prepped all of our Field Science kits, Sewing kits (including machine and patterns, thanks to a great donation from New England Fabrics!)  and additional STEAM kits, as they are ready  (which you will be able to reserve online).
  • Week of June 15 - All of the above AND the Summer Learning launch of many additional STEAM kits (Thank you, Millipore!), including compound and stereo microscopes for all ages, Artist Afternoon kits -- all supplies included, Take & Make crafts with stories -- all supplies included, Mad Science kits, Coding kits  Mahjong kits, Sewing kits, Book Club kits...  The list keeps growing!

Here's what you need to do:
  • Reserve your items.  Reserving through your library account is easy!  Ms. Andrea has prepared a how-to video.  You can watch it here.  If you still need help, call or email us.  Remember that an unavailable item might just be in quarantine, so don't hesitate to reserve as it might be available by the time of your pick-up appointment.
  • A staff member will call you to schedule a pick-up time.
  • Don't forget to reserve kits as they become available!  Put "STEAM kit" in the search bar of the catalog to see what's available.  Please be patient as we get these put together and into our database.  We have had a few technical difficulties but the IT team at Biblionix Apollo (our library system/catalog provider) is working on it.
  • Trunk or Table? We will ask you when we schedule your pick-up time if you want Trunk or Table.  In order to remain No-Touch for staff, we ask that you pop your  trunk before pulling up to the door or retrieve your bagged items yourself from a table, where they will be labelled with your name.
  • Will staff touch my items? We recognize that the asymptomatic/presymptomatic carrier scenario is very scary.  All staff will be masked and gloved when retrieving, checking out, and bagging your items, just so we don't share our germs.
  • Can I get books in Week 1 and come back again in Week 3 for STEAM kits?  Yes! You can schedule multiple pick-up times.  We will expand as we are able to meet demand.
  • Can I return items at the same time? Yes!  We will offer No-Touch Return boxes during the curbside hours so you may also return items at your scheduled pick-up time.

No-Touch Return Hours

Please help us maintain the safety of our Book Drop for packages and mail and do not use the Book Drop for your returned items until further notice.

Materials may be returned at your scheduled pick-up time.
If you are not picking up materials, please call us and we will give you a dropoff window during our pickup hours.  We will schedule additional times after we review our first week of curbside service to be sure we can manage the additional safety and quarantine procedures effectively.

How does it work?
  • During the designated times, you will find boxes, lined with garbage bags on our front steps.
  • Please place your returns in these bag-lined boxes.  Please do not wrap the items in additional bags that staff will have to unwrap later.
  • Ms. Julie will come out and tie up the bags to bring them to a quarantine area in the building, without handling the items.
  • Those items will NOT be checked in until the quarantine period of at least one week has gone by, so do not be concerned that they remain listed on your account.
  • You may return any books, movies, or audiobooks, including inter-library loans.

Please do not use the Book Drop.

Questions? Email us or leave a message at 603-532-7301.

When are my books due?

When you are finished with them and able to return during the designated times.

We know it is frustrating not to have a fixed return date or an open book drop. We miss normalcy, too!
We have set all curbside items to be at least a three week checkout, with auto-renewal enabled, unless another patron is waiting for the item.  Remember, you can also return items at your curbside appointment.
There are no fines so no need to stress.  If, for some reason, your account has an issue while you are waiting for return hours, just send us an email or give us a call, and we will address it.
Be well!

Don't miss Santa Storytime on June 17

Santa will be joining us for our Zoom Storytime on Wednesday, June 17 at 10:30 am.
Register for the password to visit with Santa and find out what he and the reindeer do in the summer months.  Do you think he wears that hot suit?

Still a Full Menu of Digital Services

Even though we are starting curbside services, our full menu of virtual services and programs will continue. Enjoy!
