Just a Quick Update

Vaccinate for VictoryThere's a lot going on in the world and at the library. We are very excited that members of our staff and our community are now eligible for the Covid vaccine.  While it is a great relief, we know that for the near term, we must stay the course and remain committed to the safety standards that have kept the public and the staff safe at the library over this past year.
We continue to be open 40 hours a week by appointment, and will keep you updated on future changes as they develop. Meanwhile, your patience and continued commitment to wearing masks and following our guidelines is so appreciated.
We have some great outdoor activities planned for April so stay tuned.

Be well.  Be safe.  Be kind.
Please feel free to contact me any time at
Kind regards, Julie M. Perrin, Library Director - a.k.a. Ms. Julie

What's going on at the library?

We are very pleased to be giving the exterior of our beautiful building the historic facelift it deserves. In the weeks ahead, our chimneys will be rebuilt and the brick and brownstone restored.  We don't expect this to disrupt service, but there may be a few days when we need to use only the ground floor entrance.  We will give you as much notice as possible.  We are so thrilled to have this work completed before the season of outdoor programming begins!

Alas, a few folks miss the bushes.  As much as we all love mature landscaping, those bushes have caused damage to the brownstone, and the librarians have spent many hours crawling in and out of them to retrieve beer cans, syringes, dirty diapers and other very personal items that are inappropriate to mention in a newsletter.  They have been used as trash receptacles and an alternative to the backseat of a car so let's move on.

And besides -- look at that architecture!  Our beautiful brownstone and granite foundation are finally visible, and the Library Trustees have every confidence that our landscaper will create such lovely pollinator gardens, you won't miss those bushes.
Welcome, Henrietta!
We are now hosting storytimes for our Jaffrey Grade School classes, with both in-person and remote learners simultaneously, thanks to the technology of our new 360 degree camera/ microphone, called the Meeting Owl.  We have named her Henrietta!  Henrietta is the eyes and ears of our remote students, allowing them to be in the library and interact with all their classmates, teachers and librarians together!
This photo made the front page of yesterday's Keene Sentinel, and the full article about how we are using this technology to bridge the gap and bring all of our young friends together is featured on page 5 of today's Ledger Transcript. (Here's a link to the article online.)

Seed Library Now Open at all Appointments

Here's what you need to know:
  • The Seed Library is located on the Main Floor and is available at all library appointments.
  • Households are limited to no more than ten seed packets per household, and no more than one packet of any one variety.
  • If we make it to May without "selling out," we will invite you back for more, but we want to offer enough for everyone.
Happy planting!
Thank you to our generous donors and the Seed Savers Exchange!
