Lovely, wonderful thoughts

We can learn a lot from Peter Pan. “You just think lovely wonderful thoughts," Peter explained, "and they lift you up in the air.”

On Week 2 of Outdoor Browsing, our Wednesday time got rained out yet again, but the steady stream of visitors on Thursday morning warmed our hearts, especially those who came just to visit and to share their summer learning projects.  As stressful as these times are, your kindness and support have made all the difference.  Thank you. You have indeed lifted our spirits.

The staff and I are all working hard to make this a safe summer of learning fun and to prepare for the uncertainties of the future.  I want to thank all of the staff for their good and caring natures, for their commitment to the safety of the community and each other, and for their flexibility and willingness to learn all new methods of doing practically everything we do!   I could not ask for a better team.

Thank you, too, to our wonderful Board of Trustees, who have held fast in their commitment to safety, including their support of some interior projects during our building closure that will allow for a safer reopening. They are a fabulous team.

Keep thinking lovely, wonderful thoughts. Be safe.

Please feel free to contact me any time at
Kind regards, Julie M. Perrin, Library Director - a.k.a. Ms. Julie
Outdoor Browsing this week was fun for all ages, and we loved seeing your summer projects.  Some of our young patrons have earned the titles of Field Scientist or Seamstress -- all thanks to library STEAM kits!

NEW TIMES - Outdoor Browsing (Weather Permitting)

Wednesday, July 15 at 2:00 - 4:00 pm

Thursday, July 16 at 10:00 am - Noon
We are still hopeful that the threat of thunderstorms will not cancel Wednesday afternoons again, but we are finding that the heat of the noon sun on Thursdays is not the best for people, so we are moving Thursday back an hour to 10 am and ending at Noon.

WHERE:  Library Staff Parking Area
WHO:  Any library cardholder who can wear a mask.

What if rain is predicted?
This is a SUN only event.  Because of the time it takes to bring materials in and out, we can't risk it if the weather is threatening.

What will you have for browsing?
Not all 35,000 items housed in the library, but we promise a good selection of books, audios and movies for all ages.

Do I need an appointment?
No appointment necessary!  However, to maintain social distancing, we may need to limit numbers at a given time.

Do I need to bring my library card?
Preferably, yes. If you have your library card, we will encourage you to use self-checkout.  If you have lost your card  (or did an online application), we have a pandemic special of free replacements at Outdoor Browsing events!

Do I have to wear a mask, even outdoors?
Yes, for the safety of all, you will be required to use hand sanitizer and wear a mask before entering the outdoor browsing area. If you can't wear a mask, we will ask that you stick with Curbside Pick-up.

What about children?
Please do the selections for young children who can't wear masks.  You know we LOVE children, and children who are old enough to wear a mask can visit the children's browsing area. We ask that you do not bring in toddlers and babies who are too young for masks. We just don't know enough about asymptomatic carriers so better safe than sorry for the health of other families.

Do I have to use hand sanitizer?
Yes, please.  We will have some at the entrance to the browsing area.

If I don't see what I want, will you go into the library and get it for me?
Not during the event, but we are happy to put it on hold for you and schedule a curbside appointment for you to get it another day.

Do I have to use Self- checkout?
If you aren't comfortable with self-checkout, library staff will be on hand to check out your materials.

This is great but I really am not ready to interact with people, even this way.  Can I still do Curbside Pick-up?
Of course!  If you really like curbside pick-up, that's okay.  We are still happy to select your books and reserves and have them ready curbside.

Remember, Curbside Pick-up is rain or shine, but Outdoor Browsing is shine only.

Learn more about the Library Trustees

Are you a natural library advocate?  Do you have experience with group decision making?  Do you have business or life skills that could enhance our board?   The Library Trustees have an open position as well as alternate spots to fill.
The Library Trustees are a five member volunteer board (elected) with up to three alternate trustees allowed, by state law.  Appointments are only until the next election in March 2021.

Per the Attorney General's guidance for the pandemic, the Board is presently meeting via Zoom.
On Tuesday, July 21 at 6:30 pm, the Library Trustees invite residents to meet the Board via Zoom and share their interest in the open positions.
All meetings are open to the public, but if you would like time on the agenda to interview and ask questions, please email Chair, John Stone at
The access instructions for the meeting are available here.

Is this Ms. Julie or Yoga Julie?

We are pleased to welcome Julie Cyr of Sharon, also known as Yoga Julie, to a bigger role on the library team. Prior to the pandemic, Julie worked just a few hours each week and filled in as a sub, while also working at another public library.  When we went virtual, she used her experience as a certified Yoga instructor to bring you those great Yoga-to-Go activities, and now she joins us a regular member of the circulation staff, helping curbside service to be seamless.
This is great news but it does make it confusing since we always identify ourselves when we answer the phone.
Feel free to ask if this is Ms. Julie or Yoga Julie!
Watch our Mask-erade!  Thank you for wearing your mask and keeping us safe!
May all your reading days be this lovely!
