A fabulous start to our new service level

What a great week!  This was our first full week of appointments, and already we have learned so much about this new service level. I know we are librarians, but contrary to popular belief, we didn't like the quiet!   We have missed the laughter of young and old in the library, and it is so wonderful to have you back.  It's worked out so well, we have already added in some more appointments to each timeslot and expanded slots to include "learning pods," by request.  Our very literary Lab Rats have made many new friends, and everyone is loving the new service desks and new spaces on the top floor.
Our best compliment came yesterday when a special patron told me that she loved all the new upgrades but also was relieved that it wasn't "too new" or "too different."  We already have a beautiful library.  Our goal in making a few changes is only to be better and safer so that together, we can ride this wave of uncertainty.
And everyone is doing great at wearing masks, following rules, and being careful of each other. Thank you!

Be well.  Be safe.  Be kind.
Please feel free to contact me any time at
Kind regards, Julie M. Perrin, Library Director - a.k.a. Ms. Julie

Woohoo!  Big grant news!

We are so happy to announce that we were once again invited by Millipore Sigma to apply for funds to support our 2021 STEAM Learning program plans, and drumroll, please...
WE HAVE BEEN AWARDED $20,000 again for next year!
As you know, our Millipore grant for 2020 was responsible for all those STEAM kits and Library-to-Go activities that made a summer of lifelong learning beyond our wildest dreams.  While some people grew gardens this summer, we grew young scientists!
Thank you, Millipore for being our partner in literacy and STEAM learning for all ages!

Family Connect - an all new program, especially for our seniors

Are you a senior who is struggling with the technology required to stay connected in a Covid world?  If not you, perhaps your neighbor or someone you know will spend the holidays isolated because travel isn't possible and the risks too high.
The library wants to help you connect with your families for the holidays.
We had an idea!  Let's try it!
On the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 25th, we will offer hourly appointments from 1 pm through 6 pm for a new Family Connect program, where the librarians will orchestrate a pre-arranged Zoom session with your family.  You will come to the library, be given your own private room where we will set up the technology for you to talk with your far away family and friends for approximately 30 minutes.  We will get you up and running and then leave you to your private video chat.
We know there is some planning involved, so we are giving you lots of notice so we can make all the arrangements with your group.  The great thing about Zoom is that you can chat with just one person or several, even if they are in different parts of the country.
And you don't have to have the technology or know what to do with it because we can make it happen for you!
If you are interested for yourself or someone you know, please call Julie or Andrea at the library,  532-7301.  We will get the ball rolling for your very private, very own Family Connect session on the day before Thanksgiving.
Thanks to the generosity of a local resident, TeenBookCloud is back!
After reading that we had to discontinue this service due to the cost, a resident made a donation to cover the entire annual subscription cost, so all you middle and high schoolers continue to have access to great online content -- books, graphic novels, audios, videos and more!
Show your appreciation and get reading!
To get started with TeenBookCloud and our other online resources, log into your account on our Catalog page and click on TeenBookCloud in the Electronic Resources list.

The new STEAM kits are here!

The new kits are showing up in the catalog and getting checked out almost as quickly as they appear.  We are adding new ones every day, along with your old favorites from the summer.
To see what's available, view content photos, or get on the reserve list, visit our Catalog, and type "STEAM kit" in the search bar.  Log into your account to reserve a whole new season of Lifelong Learning fun!  Our new kits feature important topics like US History and Government and Mathematics, complete with family board games to accompanying the books and learning materials.

And coming soon, Tea Time kits for both adults and children, thanks to the Friends of the Library and even Contra dance kits, thanks to the generosity of the Monadnock Folklore Society!
