Here's some info about this month's artists - get your tickets now!
Tay Bridge Disaster
Ailbhe Darcy
Whiskey River
Tay Bridge Disaster was originally just a disaster, then it became a band, then a half-remembered mystery.

Comprising club co-founder Adrian Lewis, and his long-time musical partner Fiddlin’ Doc Thomas, they recreate the tenderness, anarchy and ribaldry of the slightly strange world of American bluegrass and country-noir.

Someone once observed that “Tradition is peer pressure from dead people”. Tay Bridge Disaster take that maxim and run away from it, screaming.

It’s been nearly 10 years since their last reunion when they supported Woody Mann on one of his sporadic visits to Penarth – you don’t want to miss a good Disaster.
Ailbhe Darcy was born and grew up in Dublin and has lived in the US and Germany, before finding a home in Cardiff.

Her most recent book, Insistence, her second full-length poetry collection, was published by Bloodaxe and won both Literature Wales’ the Roland Mathias Prize for Poetry, and the overall Wales Book of the Year 2019 awards, as well as the Pigott Poetry Prize 2019 – Ireland’s largest poetry prize.

She teaches creative writing at Cardiff University and we’re looking forward to welcoming her on this, her first visit to the club
Whiskey River was born after founder members Martin Blake and Aidan Sheehan went to Louisiana in 2003 and visited a dance hall called 'Whiskey River Landing', built on the edge of the Atchafalaya swamp. They had a fantastic Sunday afternoon there and got to thinking that Whiskey River might be a good name for a band.

About a week later, someone in a bar in Houston Texas gave them a plectrum with 'Whiskey River' written on it. This was taken as 'a definite sign' and the band they were working with back in the UK was renamed on their return.

They play Americana - Cajun, Zydeco, Good Country and Low Down Dirty Blues with a dangerous edge. With many years experience of performing, these guys deliver the goods.

Martin and Aidan played the club as a duo, The Whiskey River Boys, a couple of years ago, and people still ask when they are returning. Well it’s this Friday, and they return enhanced by the addition of double-bass and fiddle, and two extra voices.
Please note that tickets for this event are £10
