We just wrapped up an unforgettable trip in Fiji with two close friends, Dave and Deanna, who made sure my golden birthday (43 on 4/3) was extra special. We had a kava ceremony, danced to drums with locals, and ate fantastic food from palm leaves. The locations we stayed at allowed us to swim under a waterfall, have sharks at our feet, and snorkel in the most intense colors I've ever experienced. From start to finish, it was 11 days of non-stop fun.
► Today we flew into Auckland, New Zealand to begin our final three weeks of the journey. The airport was recently ranked #27 on the top 100 airports list, and it showed. Hard to believe that the US doesn't even have an airport ranked until #32. Can you guess which one?
While in New Zealand, we will spend one week on the north island and two weeks on the south island. Based on all of the advice we have received over these past two years from Kiwis and other travelers, we decided this was best, and we have quite an itinerary. Nikki will be behind the wheel (driving on the left side of the road, steering wheel on the right) as we road-trip it. My driver's license expired since we left and I couldn't renew it. Long story.
► I am excited that the Kickstarter campaign for the photo book of police officers around the world was featured in Police Magazine in a well-written article by Doug Wyllie. With only a couple of weeks left, I am working hard to get the word out. If you have any ideas, please share.
► Thinking about booking a 'kind of last minute' vacation for this summer (especially the European followers)? Two of my favorites for late May and early June were (1) the Isle of Man trip to watch the TT races and (2) the June festivities in Lisbon, Portugal. If it's impossible to pull off this year, plan for it in the future. You will be glad you did.
► In this week's podcast episode we talk about our time in Brisbane + Sydney (Living the Australian Life).
Spending almost three weeks in Brisbane and Sydney helped us truly understand the ins and outs of Australian life. We enjoyed our time with our two friends, Nick and Kathryn, and their kind family. BBQs, rugby, and laughter dominated our time in Brisbane. We had a chance to walk the coast in Redcliffe, get some ink like an Aussie, and cheer on the Lions. The wide range of bars and restaurants provided many chances to discover what the Brisbane nightlife is all about.
Transitioning to Sydney and the beautiful Bondi Beach provided long walks along the coast, a surfer’s vibe, and many options for coffee or drinks. The Opera House is a world-renowned symbol of Australia, and it did not disappoint with its beauty. Walking around the downtown area gave us a chance to feel the diversity and big-city atmosphere that comes with the charm and kindness of the Australian people. We really enjoyed our time in these two major Australian cities, come along as we share a few tips and tricks we learned along the way.
Time to rest up...got a bunch to see with only 21 days left.
