Editorial

We herewith present the second edition of the CRIDS Newsletter. It covers March, April, May. We would like to thank all those who commented on the first edition. We hope and are convinced that their reaction allowed us to improve both presentation and content of the newsletter.
As you will read, Spring 2017 was and still is a successful period for CRIDS. We were chosen for an important number of research projects and organized several conferences and seminars. In this context, we would like to mention especially our three programs of ongoing education: DataSafe – Inter-university Certificate in Data protection, InfoSafe – Management of Information Security and DocSafe – Management of Digital Information.  This year again, they proved to be a big success. For all of them, registration is now open for the 2017-2018 edition (sarah.fievet@unamur.be).
Regarding research, we continue to follow closely the different legislative (and other) initiatives launched by the European Commission in the context of its Digital Single Market Strategy for Europe, which concern our research fields (intellectual property, data protection, electronic communications, platform regulation, audiovisual media services, etc.).
Also, work on our specific research topic for 2016/2017, the robotization of life” continues. Several internal research seminars (“Midis du CRIDS”) were already dedicated to the issue, as will be our Training Day of June 8 and, as already announced, a conference on October 20, 2017.
We wish you an enjoyable reading of this second edition of the Newsletter. Please do not hesitate to share it with colleagues and … to contact us for any comment or suggestion you might have.

New projects

BIG DATA
This Technological Innovation Partnership aims at building the first version of the Big Data service catalog (infrastructure and software) which will be made available through a Platform of Innovation (a portal open to Walloon companies both in the research and exploitation phases).

PACTE D'EXCELLENCE NUMÉRIQUE
The research aims to support the 'Pacte pour un enseignement d'excellence'. Specifically, the project consists in designing digital tools for education. The CRIDS provides scientific support in the "Digital Education" consortium and contributes to the development, testing and validation of these tools.

GREENWORK
The GreenWork research is a three years doctoral project financed by the Close Foundation (Province de Namur). The context is the building of the future Provincial Administration House (MAP), integrating management innovations in space designing, i.e. new work organization and agents’ ecological responsibility. The research question asks how systems of participation influence social appropriation of the project by the agents. We analyze systems of participation during the project process and how they produce social appropriation defined as the construction of a shared and accepted representation of the project as well as organizational practices oriented to the change.

COCOM
The Brussels Common communitarian committee (CoCom) is responsible for health and personal assistance policies in the Brussels region and must amend its data protection rules following the adoption of the EU General Data Protection Regulation. This EU regulation must be complied with as of 25 May 2018. The Regulation is directly applicable. However, the rules applicable in the Brussels region for the processing of personal data by the institutions falling under the competence of the CoCom must be updated to address practical issues like the appointment of data protection officers, the implementation of the right to object and of data portability or the establishment of processes to report  data breaches according to the regulation. The subject of the study is to prepare legal drafting susceptible to comprehensively update the current rules.

OPEN AGRO 4.0
The Open Agro 4.O project is an initiative from the Walloon region for two years. It concerns the elaboration and development of a smart climate agriculture based on big data activities and decision-making tools by various public research institutions in the agricultural and environmental sectors. Open Agro 4.0 projects consist in the examination of the intellectual property legal framework, the possible protection and also open access and open license issues.
