A letter from our President, Chuck Ranney, 8/14/2019

A new weed has been found in our lake.  It is Starry Stonewort. It was found at the public launch.  The DNR paid Aquatic Weed Control to treat an acre, which was about a third more than the infestation.  The weed is actually an algae that anchors itself with rhizomes. It likes mucky bottoms in 7 – 10 feet of water.  The weed looks like little tubes and breaks apart easily. It is NOT recommended to physically pull the weed up. We will need three treatments a year to keep it somewhat burnt back.  There is no treatment to eradicate it The DNR will probably pay for two treatments. The third will have to come from us at $400 an acre. In ten years it will be the dominant weed in the lake.  If I hear more from Aquatic Weed Control, I will pass the info on.

Also, Dave from Aquatic Weed Control, talked about Milfoil.  We will be going into the third year after the lake was shocked for Milfoil.  This is usually when the Milfoil starts to come back. We will need to put some funds forward if this occurs.

Fish Stocking

On October 4th, 2019, the lake was stocked with approximately 3000 more nine to twelve inch Walleye.  *Please note that the legal limit is a minimum of 16" in Indiana.

Free Fishing Days in 2020

The Indiana DNR is offering 4 free fishing days in 2020, giving residents a chance to fish without a license in state waters.  The free fishing days will be May 3, June 6-7, and September 26th.

The DLPA is in need of a Secretary.  If you or someone you know is interested in filling this volunteer position, please contact your lane director or Chuck Ranney.
