Patients with Head and Neck Cancer See Impact on Ability to Work Due to Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy and cancer treatment can be incredibly intense for some patients. Even if you prepare and have a team supporting you, it’s normal to see an impact in your professional and personal lives. One study that was presented at the American Society for Radiation Oncology Annual Meeting found that head and neck cancer patients were at increased risk of experiencing weight loss, increased pain, and more fatigue as a result of radiotherapy.
These led to many HNC patients missing more days at work.
Radiotherapy treatment in this study led to lower productivity and worse performance in the office. Researchers and doctors are hoping to find ways to reduce the impact of treatment on professional lives to encourage more patients to get treatment, as some people cannot afford to miss work and will forgo or delay critical treatment as a result.

Environmental Group Adds 3 Vegetables to Its Annual Dirty Dozen List

The Dirty Dozen list by the Environmental Working Group is a great way to prioritize which vegetables you should buy organic. The vegetables on the list contain the highest amounts of pesticides that can lead to negative health consequences. This year, the new testing caused tomatoes to drop from spot 10 to spot 11.
Bell peppers joined the list, and mustard greens and collard greens both joined kale on the list.
This year’s testing also found that a whopping 70% of non-organic produce sold in the United States last year had pesticides. Some samples of kale and mustard greens had 20 different pesticides in a single sample! When you are shopping for your healthy diet this new year or as you go through head and neck cancer treatment, you should pay attention to the dirty dozen list:
  1. Strawberries
  2. Spinach
  3. Kale
  4. Collard and mustard greens
  5. Nectarines
  6. Apples
  7. Grapes
  8. Cherries
  9. Peaches
  10. Pears
  11. Bell and hot peppers
  12. Celery
