Feature Jonas Kjellberg, Chairman of the Board and co-founder of NORNORM – a fully circular, subscription-based furnishing service

The Swedish Chamber of Commerce met with Jonas Kjellberg, Chairman of the Board at Swe-Cham member NORNORM, to learn more about their circular office furniture solution and to discuss the current transition in office space and the huge changes we are facing when it comes to where we actually work.

“There has been a change from locking people up in offices to work where you live”

There is a huge macro trend going on and NORNORM has discovered huge changes in the workspace and the location where people are working.

– Office spaces will be transformed and change. You will maybe only be at your office 2 days a week which means you don’t need to live nearby the cities where the jobs are located. At NORNORM we see companies, like our self, who transform into hybrid solutions where employees only meet each fourth week physically at one location and then we work from home for three weeks. That means that a person can take a job in New York and live in Amsterdam working from their own home office. I think this is going to have an enormous effect on society. I think that we need the office space as a social point in order to meet people and get energized and inspired because as humans we are social beings. Working from home, on the other hand, gives us the opportunity to be more focused and efficient. Offices will also become smaller when most employees will continue to partly work from home.

The whole perspective behind NORNORM is that you don’t have to own office furniture.

– We believe that our service is cheaper than leasing. Circularity is key in all aspects of the business, which means that we must try to optimize every part of the chain; from what items we choose to work with to how they are packed, transported, and eventually refurbished. We adapt our services to build on the customers’ needs and offer full flexibility.

UPDATE DUTCH POLITICS according to PublicMatters: 2022 is looking bright on Budget Day

Caretaker Cabinet presents an optimistic budget with 3,5% economic growth and national debt at 56,5% of GDP in 2022

On Budget Day (known as 'Prinsjesdag'), the third Tuesday of September, the Dutch government announces its plans and ambitions for the coming year.

This year the cabinet has a ‘caretaker status’, following the childcare benefit scandal in January when PM Rutte offered the resignation of his cabinet to the King. Due to a very long and complicated formation process, no new cabinet has been formed as of yet.

Later today, the minister of Finance (Wopke Hoekstra) will present the government budget for the upcoming year – called “Resilience and Building Onwards” – which will be followed by a cycle of parliamentary debates, lasting until the beginning of December. All budgets of all the ministries must be approved by Parliament and Senate by January 1st, 2022.

The key message from this year’s King’s Speech is that the Netherlands is doing well economically, which provides room to "build towards the Netherlands of tomorrow". As the COVID-crisis had an enormous impact on the Dutch people and healthcare system, the government is working on a prevention plan for pandemics. Extra investments in building new houses, climate policy, and security will help move the Netherlands forward. It's also stated that the Dutch worry about the increasing polarization of public debates, but that they are resilient people that still rate their lives positively.

Public Matters is a leading public affair & lobby consultancy in the Netherlands, supporting clients on influencing policy and strategic communications. We are expert, creative, and result-driven. Curious to find out what the 2022 budget means for your business, and how to influence policies in the coming debate cycle? The Swedish Government’s Budget Proposal for 2022

Yesterday, on September 20, 2021, the Swedish Government presented its Budget Proposal for 2022 to the Riksdag.

The Minister For Finance Magdalena Andersson presented that the budget for 2022 will include aggressive reforms for the climate, jobs welfare and law enforcement, and that these reforms will take Sweden forward after the pandemic. In the budget proposition, reforms of approximately SEK 74 billion are involved. These will drive faster climate transition, getting more people into work, strengthen the welfare system and make Sweden a safe and secure country for everyone.

The Netherlands was highlighted in the Global Business Climate Survey 2021!

On September 1, 2021, the Global Business Climate Survey was presented. The survey examines Swedish companies’ perspectives on local business conditions and what factors that are important for success in global markets.

This year, the survey was based on 1,400 responses across 22 global markets. This was the first year the Netherlands participated in the survey, and the results were truly impressive! The Netherlands reported high numbers overall regarding aspects like Sustainability, Business Climate, Business Performance and Outlook, and Positive Expectations on Industry Turnover for the next 12 months. More specifically, the Netherlands stood out as the market where customers are believed to care the most about environmental factors as well as the market in which the respondents described the current business climate most positively.
