The Catalyst For Change
While watching Collateral Beauty, a track playing multiple times (I first noticed it while Howard was biking) in the film intrigued me. I somehow heard it before...at least I FELT like I did. I started to get excited because an idea was bubbling up to make a groove idea video for it.
(More gifs of that scene here)
Thankfully, my anxieties were eased because it was the third song when I got to the credits. The name of the song is 'Looking Too Closely' by Fink. While listening to the studio version, it sounds like they looped that first bit (which is the bit that gives me goosebumps) as I don't remember hearing the second half of the track elsewhere in the film.
And I think what resonates in the film most would be these bits:
Put your arms around somebody else
And don’t punish yourself, punish yourself
(At first I thought this wasn't in the film, then realised that it may be part of the opening scene montage. Source: Tumblr)
Not sure yet about the rest of the song. Maybe I'll wait until I get an email from you to hear what the rest means to you. After all, I've accepted that mishearing lyrics is a given for me. :)
Pondering more about the track, It occurred to me that it could fit during two other films:
- The end credits in 'Before I Fall' and those two lines would have significant meaning while the credits rolled.
- Scene with Saroo and Sue (right after Sue tells him one of the reasons she fell in love with John) in Lion.
(I'm tearing up just a little remembering this scene. For more, head here)
So...if you were to hand me DVDs of all three films? And I had to pick an order you'll watch it?
I'll go with:
- Before I Fall
- Collateral Beauty
Collateral Beauty is in between as...maybe...prep (or a break?) before you tackle Lion. :)
