Pastor Nikki's Round Up for Christmastime

Pastor Emerita, Margaret Towner's Christmas Letter

Dear friends and family

Biggest News-We relocated from Independant Living to Assisted Living. New address: 7377 Scotland Way, Apt. 6203, Sarasota, FL 34238

A tumultuous 12 months of preparing to move on May 4! We made it with months of help from family, friends and neighbors: what to keep and what to donate or sell. With help of P.E.O. sister Carol Papa, sold furniture, pots, pans and jewelry. Clergy daughters Kathi Wiggins, Karen Wismer, Deborah Block sorted, packed and mailed my historical material to be organized for Presbyterian Historical Society. Ron and Jinny Miller sorting files and shredding sermons and class material. Deborah Block helped Marg weed out clothes to be donated. Linda Clapp helping Barb sort her closet of shoes and clothes. Shari and Tim Merrill sorting Barb’s slides and outdated IRS Records. Tim and Marg making many shredding trips and furniture delivery, as did Brian Merrill make many visits cleaning out laundry room things. Marg’s cousin helped pick Towner/Schloeman history to be mailed. Neighbor MaryAl Gagnon packed books, helped dump trays of carousel slides. Moving day came and Kathi and Karen gave us a Sarasota Tour and lunch. We are still trying to find where the movers put things and feeling the loss of independence upon selling our Toyota Siena Van-to Barb’s nephew, Brian.

We learned a new way of communicating-Zooming-meetings of
P.E.O., Presbytery, Clergywomen (hosted by Kathy Dain), families;

We survived two tragic hurricanes-Ian and Nicole which brought much pain to so many people and families losing homes-among them employees here at the Glenridge.

For 2023 let us sing What the world needs now is love... that
all may follow the Old Testament Prophet Micah’s challenge in 6:8:-
"What does the Lord require of you, O Mortal, do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with our God."

Blessing Peace Hope Love
Barb & Marg

Christmas Eve

Christmas Day

Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year, and DPC will have a special service at our normal 9:30 AM service. We will share a family style breakfast, prayer and conversation. All are invited!

Family Promise

Our church will be providing meals for 4 homeless families for the following weeks of 2023:
January 29
April 14
August 6
November 12
I will be emailing all of you after the holidays to see how you maybe able to help
provide part of the 3 meals for each family at the end of January. Until then mark
your calendars with the dates provided. Thank you!! Jane Lurvey

Giving Tree

13 children at Knollcrest are very lucky this Christmas because so many of you are helping to provide a nice Christmas for them. Thank you to all who have participated in this project along with those purchasing gift cards for the 6 families. All the items will be delivered the week of December 18. I would also like to thank Sydney Marsh, who is home from the University of Iowa, for helping to coordinate the gifts, put up tree and help deliver gifts. I know through notes on the family paperwork that the families are so grateful for all your help in providing a Christmas for their children. Jane Lurvey

Christmas Joy Offering

On Sunday December 18th , Christmas Eve and Christmas Day our church will be receiving the Christmas Joy Offering, one of two special Presbyterian offerings we collect for each year. The Joy offering supports two causes. Fifty percent of our gift is used to assist current and retired church workers and their families with critical financial needs. The remaining fifty percent of our giving provides financial support for students to learn and grow in faith at Presbyterian colleges supporting communities of color. Please consider what you can give to support this worthwhile effort. If you want to give, but will not be present at these services, you can mail a check to the church, and make sure to write "Joy Offering" in the memo.

"These Days" for January, February and March now available!

The first edition of "These Days Daily Devotionals" for 2023 are now available at church. If you would like to set up a time to pick one up, or would like to get one delivered or mailed to your home, please contact Pastor Nikki at PastorNikkiDPC@gmail.com

Chili Cookoff

On Saturday, January 14, DPC will have a chili cookoff fundraiser, held at Delfield's American Legion Post. The cookoff will begin at 3:30PM. There will be playoff football on the television and a cash bar, provided by the Legion, and DPC will bring lots of food to share with anyone who's there. The cost of a ticket is $5 for all-you-can-eat chili. We'll also raffle off a number of prizes and have a 50/50 raffle. If you'd like to enter your chili, talk to Chrys Gregoire or Carol Buech. If you want to donate toward a gift basket or volunteer, there are sign up sheets in DPC's fellowship hall. Hope to see you there!

Bible Study to Resume!

DPC's adult education Bible study is set to resume on January 8, 2023 at 11AM in the conference room. We're continuing to go through the book of Genesis, while gaining skills to read the Bible for its intended meaning on our own. All are invited!
