An Urgent Request from a Familiar Partner Organization: Help Children and Families Survive the War in Ukraine.
Dear Friends,
Many of you may remember that in 2016, the Presbytery of Milwaukee sent me, along with a few other pastors, to Moldova, Ukraine and the Czech Republic to find non-profit organizations with which to partner. One organization we decided to work with was called Father's House, an orphanage for street kids, located in Kiev, Ukraine.
A couple of weeks ago, the director of the orphanage reached out with an urgent request. Although most of the orphans are currently living as refugees in Germany, Father's House has continued to help children by housing internally displaced families from eastern Ukraine, where fighting is more intense. There are currently 59 people who call Father's House their home, and 31 of them are children. The problem is that the Father's House facility was damaged severely, and is currently in need of new doors and electrical circuitry. They have budgeted $10,000 for doors alone.
I am writing to the entire congregation with a simple request: consider how you might be able to help. We have an easy, tax-deductible way to give monetary donations, as Father's House has an American bank account, registered as a 501c3. Additionally, I am organizing a fundraising event on the evening of Friday, April 28. I am requesting donations for raffle baskets for the event. Anything you have, from tickets to a movie or a sporting event, to bigger items, to services like lawn-mowing, to bigger items are appreciated and will help the cause more than you'll know!
I'd like to close by letting everyone know that this is a very special opportunity to help people in Ukraine. Unlike giving to a big international organization, you can know that every last penny you give to Father's House will go directly to people in need in Ukraine. There's no middle man, no advertising, no fees. Just pure helping. So I'm encouraging everyone to prayerfully consider how you might help. I'm attaching a more detailed write-up of Father's House's mission, methods, and their request for assistance. This write-up also includes more details on how to give.
