GVR offices and customer service desks will be CLOSED Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 for Thanksgiving. On Wednesday, November 23, all centers close early at 6:00pm. On Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, limited amenities will be open on a special schedule of 5:30am-6pm: Pools, sports courts, and fitness centers ONLY at Canoa Ranch, Las Campanas, the Pickleball Center, Santa Rita Springs, and West Center. On Friday, November 25, all recreation facilities will be open as usual, 5:30am-9pm.

Security Update: As quickly as possible after the intruder incident at Las Campanas, staff took steps to improve security. The incident was a serious one—several elements indicate that it was a deliberate incursion into the women’s locker room. The woman involved did not “encounter” the intruder, he sought her out. Not knowing anything about this man or his state of mind, staff moved swiftly to convert many entrances to exit-only to make it easier for staff and members to keep an eye on who was entering facilities. A week later now, the Pima County Sheriff has no updates. Most gates and doors are reopening.  Staff and members are urged to remain alert to activity at entrances. Members are asked to please refrain from holding doors and gates open for folks they don’t know. Staff have already begun consulting with security firms for a campus-wide assessment and will report back to members as soon as we have a plan to pursue. Finally, please remember that your member card is for your use only. Guests are your visitors from out of town and should use a guest card. Renters and AirBnB customers are not guests—they are tenants and should use a tenant card.

The arrival of the WINTER COURSE CATALOG will be delayed. Due to a key staffer experiencing a medical emergency, the catalog production schedule was disrupted. Members will find it ONLINE from the homepage at www.GVREC.org next week. Lobbies with customer service desks will have a few copies for on-site perusal. Registration will open on-schedule, December 5.

Annual dues invoices will arrive in mailboxes near the end of this month. Online payments can be made starting December 1 (watch for a button on the homepage at GVREC.org). If you anticipate having trouble paying your 2023 dues ($510), or making a full payment on time, please consider applying for MAP (see next section below) or for a dues payment plan. Click HERE for the dues payment plan application, which must be submitted anew each year.

The 53rd Annual Artisans Festival started today and ends tomorrow, November 19 9am-3pm, at West Center. Expect food trucks, door prizes, and the unique handcrafted wares of over 100 local artisans. Take care of all your holiday shopping with one trip! Hosted by the GVR Lapidary and Silversmithing Club.

El Tour de Tucson bicycle race will again come through the area tomorrow, Saturday, November 19. Continental and the Old Nogales highway will be routes to avoid. To attend the Artisan's Festival, approach West Center from the north on La Canada.

GVR is HIRING! Part time, evening Custodians work stable 4-day schedules, cleaning centers in teams. Full and part-time Recreation Services Assistants work in centers assisting members with activities and events. A full-time Fitness Coordinator is needed to ensure the fitness facilities operate smoothly. Full time GVR staff are offered medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance. All staff receive vacation pay, 401k match, and an annual GVR dues waiver.  Click HERE to view open positions and apply.
East center has a pool! It is NOT OPEN yet, but the crew pictured above plastered the interior yesterday and started filling it overnight. Click HERE to watch the water level rise in real time--fair warning, it's a lot like watching paint dry. The plaster will need to cure for a time before the pool can be used. SAVE THE DATE for a celebration of the new pool on December 15, 1pm-3pm. Expect food, music by Mike Finkelstein and Friends, caroling and of course, a ribbon cutting! Hopefully we'll be able to enjoy the music from the water.
Each year, the Member Assistance Program helps GVR members in need pay their annual dues so they can stay active and contribute to their clubs and social groups. The MAP program is funded primarily through the generous donations of GVR members like you. Click HERE to make a tax-deductible donation to MAP through the GVR Foundation. The GVR Foundation has helped fund the annual MAP awards since 2014.

This year, the members of the GVR Foundation Board have personally pitched in to match the first $10,000 in donations to MAP.  Clubs have donated nearly $7,000 so far. Donate today to double your impact!

If you need help to pay your 2023 GVR dues ($510), click HERE for the 2023 MAP application or visit any customer service desk for a paper copy.
