We had a very busy holiday season this year with lots of fun and kindheartedness and we can't think of a better way to end 2017! Here's a recap of how we closed out the year:
Holiday Helper Kickoff Hosted by Capo
Our Holiday Helper kickoff event was a huge success! Capo Restaurant had a beautiful set up for us with great drinks and appetizers and an amazing staff. We cannot thank them enough for our hosting our event and helping make it such a success! Raffle prizes donated for the event included overnights at the Element and Seaports hotels, tickets to the Nutcracker, a gym membership and 100 bottles of wine for the Wine Pull! We raised over $5000 that evening for Holiday Helper so thank you to everyone who came out to support.

Holiday Helper 2017 was amazing! We are so grateful for the support from individuals and organizations and their enthusiasm for helping families in need during the holidays. This year we were able to sponsor over 300 families as well as provide toys, coats, clothes, gift cards and dinners. We were also honored to be selected as the nonprofit featured at The Well Coffee House for the month of December! Throughout the month a portion of their proceeds went towards our Holiday Helper program while also spreading the word about what we do here at the Ollie.
Thank you to all of the organizations that sponsored multiple families this year including, Vertex, Radius Bank, Loomis Sayles, BNY Mellon, Aquanor, Fidelity, Boston Global Investors, L Street Running Club, Thayer Academy, Teamsters Local 25, Roza Lyons, and Merrill Lynch.
Thank you to our Ollie staff who make all of this possible by working late, coming in early, dropping off gifts, shopping on their own time and really just caring so much about our community. We also have to give a shout out to Sal Russo and Richard Ames for van driving and gift carrying throughout all the craziness. This was a very special holiday season so thank you to everyone who was a part of it.
Annual Board Meeting
Our Annual Board Meeting & Holiday Gathering was held this month. Hosted at the beautiful Cronin Group offices, it was an evening of some business and lots of good food and company. We were so happy to have so much of the staff and board attend the event and we were especially excited to introduce our 2018 Marathon "Team Ollie" to everyone! The evening included a special recognition and thank you of longtime Ollie volunteer Ed Baszkiewicz. Ed is truly a champion of the Ollie and his love and commitment to what we do here is clear. Participants of all ages adore him and were so excited to hear of his recognition.
Holiday Crafts Party
Family Engagement hosted a holiday crafts party this month and it was a blast! There was ornament making, cooking decorating, holiday games and even a visit from Santa. To view all the pictures from the event visit our Facebook page.
Our John Hancock Marathon "Team Ollie" is full and ready to go! We have five amazing runners who are passionate about supporting our mission. They've started their training and fundraising but will need your help to reach their goals. The funds our marathon team raise for us are critical to our programs and allow us to continue to support family and neighborhood life in South Boston. Please consider donating to Team Ollie today!
Tennis with BPD continues to be a big hit with our seniors! This month they added an extra festive holiday twist. To see what activities the Ollie Seniors have coming up this month click below to view their calendar.
Our School Age program had a blast during school vacation week. Their activities included a trip to the ice rink, a trampoline park, an indoor pool and lots of fun onsite activities with our awesome School Age staff!
Girls group had a busy end of the year! December highlights included cupcake decorating, ice skating, a trip to the Enchanted Village, going to the movies and a special workshop with officers from Station C6 where they learned about personal and internet safety!
