The Spark

Fire Starter Festival Newsletter

'The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.'  - Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

Warm greetings! This month, we are celebrating the 1st August and the start of the Edinburgh Festival by stoking the embers of the Fire Starter Festival from January, and igniting the kindling for #FSF2020 which will be happening 27th January – 14th February 2020.

FSF 2019 was a phenomenal year as we saw the fire spread to Ireland. There were over 90 events in total, which culminated in over 3000 participants. From Orkney to Ireland, the festival spread further than ever. Our launch at the V&A was sparked off by The Minister for Children and Young People, Maree Todd, and many great human exhibits.

This year, we are exploring how the Festival can keep pushing these boundaries, helping us to reimagine public services and how we use them.

The kindling - want to know more?

We have a number of information sessions arranged where you can find out more about the 2020 festival and how you can become involved:
We are also exploring how we use webinars so we can extend our reach. You can register for a webinar here:
Join the Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is open to anyone who wants to have a chat about mischief-making and system shaking. Come along, buy a coffee (and a pastry if you fancy) and have a chat with a really interesting mix of people about whatever topic emerges that morning.

We run monthly breakfast clubs throughout the year, in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. For more information please visit our eventbrite page or see events below:

Host a Fire Starter Festival event

There are examples of innovative work happening all across Scotland. We hope that you will join our festival and host your own event to share what you're doing.

Workforce Scotland will host the launch plus a few other events during the Fire Starter Festival, but the festival is mainly a space for anyone working in public services to catch the sparks and create their own events and small fires of change.

You may want to host a bespoke event on a theme or topic that aligns to our ethos.

This year, the deadline to upload your event to the Events Calendar will be 13th December.

If you would like some help thinking through how you and your organisation could get involved please email firestarter@workforcescotland.com.
