The Spark

Fire Starter Festival Newsletter

New Dates Announced: Sparkfest - our new mini-festival series - will take place 6 & 7 October!

We have found a new date for Sparkfest, which had originally been planned for May! We hope that you can join us for this new online mini-festival and help us gear up for the next Fire Starter Festival!

Sparkfest has been designed to provide opportunities to delve more deeply into the experiences, outcomes and workings of the Fire Starter Festival.
This is what the 2-day mini-festival will be all about:

  • Reflections and Evaluations of Fire Starter 2020
  • Review our inquiry into how the arts and creativity support system change
  • From Joining the Dots to Creative Bravery Festival: Explore how this event and the Covid experience led to a week-long festival reimagining education
  • The Balancing Act: Hear from policy makers from Directorate of Early Learning and Childcare in the Scottish Government about their FSF event and citizen engagement
  • Liberating Structures: Insights into this engaging and innovative event from FSF 2020

You can now sign up for Sparkfest via our Eventbrite site! You can use the same Zoom link to join us at any time, for any sessions you are most interested in.

Have you heard about the Creative Bravery Festival?

Having come out of our Fire Starter Festival, the Creative Bravery Festival is a newly-formed festival of learning which celebrates acts of bravery and uses them to transform and rethink the way we educate. By sharing stories, gathering ideas and forming collaborations, its goal is to create a series of events, talks and resources.

The dates for the festival have now been confirmed for 21 - 27 September 2020.

In advance of the launch of the festival, you can take part in weekly 'campfires' - an opportunity to get together and share your ideas for the Creative Bravery Festival.

Until then, get in touch with the Creative Bravery team:

Holding the Space - A Conversation with Hidden Giants

Join us for a conversation with Paul Gorman from Hidden Giants on 4 August and 1 September to talk about:
  • The benefits of doing nothing other than holding the space
  • The tension between fast/slow decision making
  • The need to meddle beyond our given silos
  • The joy of collaborating with complete strangers
Both sessions will be held via Zoom and you can now sign up for them here

Make sure you also have a look at Paul's new blog on 'Holding the Space'.
