BSC Startup from NEW NSF 49-2018 Annex E 
E.7.5  BSC start up procedure [abbreviated]:
a)  Follow manufacturer’s startup procedure. If cabinet is in alarm, investigate root cause before continuing;
b)  Inspect air intake grilles and remove obstructions. Remove all items from the work area;
c)  Adjust view screen to proper height;
d)  Turn on blower and allow 5 minutes to purge the air;
e)  Wash hands & arms, don rear-fastening, long-sleeve gown with gathered cuffs & long sleeve gloves;
f)  Disinfect the interior surfaces of the BSC;
g)  Place a plastic-backed pad on the work surface without covering the air intake / exhaust grills;
h)  Put all items for the experiment in the BSC;
i)  Exercise care that no items be placed over the front intake grills. Clean materials separated from dirty (used);
j)  Allow air to stabilize for 5 minutes before starting work;
k)  Work from "clean" to "dirty" areas & work at least 6 inches (150 mm) back from rear of the front air intake grill;
l)  Move arms in and out of work area perpendicular to the front of the BSC in a slow steady motion;
m) Minimize penetration of the work opening air curtain;
n)  Plan work to minimize the number of times hands and arms enter and leave the air curtain;
o)  Know your "safe working area." All work should be performed on or above the work tray.
