Welcome to the first newsletter of August, and it's a newsletter packed with tools and tips, including a list for investigative journalists that I wrote up for a new monthly column I'm writing for the Global Investigative Journalism Network. Aside from that we also have some interesting insight in building data journalism in the newsroom, a look at Reuters new app, and Google's plans to include data journalism results in searches.

Kuang Keng has spent a decade working to build data journalism in Southeast Asian newsrooms but says that simply providing data journalism training for journalists is not enough. Reuters new app focuses on engagement, not pageviews

Although the agency publishes more than 5,000 pieces of content every day, its primary focus with its new app is to get readers to spend more time in the app.
