Stand Up for Refugees
President Trump released an executive order earlier this week announcing a 90-day ban on refugees from 11 countries, including war-torn Syria and South Sudan. With 44 percent of last year’s resettled refugees coming from the now-banned countries, the executive order restricts the likelihood that the United States will even reach the historically low refugee admissions cap of 45,000. This act will have immediate, devastating effects on refugees hoping to enter the United States and on our country’s refugee resettlement program.
As people of faith, we are called throughout scripture to welcome the refugee and to protect the cause of the vulnerable. Refugees have blessed our churches and our communities, and we are reminded that Jesus himself was a refugee.
Call on Congress to advocate for the protection of refugees!
