Statement on the U.S. Withdrawing from the Paris Agreement and Three Ways to Take Action
On June 1st, President Trump announced his decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement. The CRC Office of Social Justice is deeply grieved by this.
Our world belongs to God - every square inch of it. Because of this, we are committed to working vigorously to protect and heal the creation for the glory of the Creator. Despite this setback, we will continue to be faithful stewards of creation, hopeful voices for justice, and public examples in the effort to live sustainably with our God-given resources in the spirit of the Paris Agreement.
We will continue to build on the momentum we’ve established in the past several months, and we’ll continue to support other organizations working alongside us to advocate for action on climate. From participating in events like the 2017 People’s Climate March and meeting with elected officials, to congregations reducing their environmental impact, we hope to keep leading by example.
Despite President Trump’s withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Agreement, we encourage you to act in faith with us. Here are three ways you can take action this weekend:
- Go outside for an hour. Walk, sit, breathe, walk some more, and listen to what God is telling you to do about climate change.
- Triple our advocacy impact! Can you find three people to join the Climate Witness Project? We invite you to become a partner and hope you encourage your friends to become partners too! Sign up here.
- Make a donation to World Renew to support front line regions like Bora in Southern Mali, Olancho in Honduras, and low lying regions in Bangladesh.
