On September 27, the Trump administration announced that it would set the refugee resettlement cap at 45,000 people for the next year--the lowest ever in our nation’s history.
But 45,000 is not a fixed number. Congress has the opportunity to push back on this historically low figure and demand a higher resettlement goal. Our average goal since 1980 has been 90,000 refugees; refugee resettlement agencies and faith-based organizations around the country are asking for a minimum goal of 75,000 for the next year. The Bible calls us to defend the cause of the vulnerable--this moment is an opportunity to live into this call.
Will you call your Members of Congress and
ask them to advocate for welcoming 75,000 lives?
