SPAY DAY is FEBRUARY 28th
These pets and people were helped last week on SNAP East Neuter Scooter.
Over 800 pets will be helped this month on SNAP's Neuter Scooters.
This February, after the chocolates are gone and the flowers are wilted, the Spay Neuter Action Project is focusing our attention on World Spay Day on February 28, 2023. Chances are the kitties, puppies and bunnies in your life have benefited from being spayed or neutered. With your help, many other local pets can share in these benefits, not to mention the millions of animals that will be spared thanks to a decrease in the unwanted pet population brought about by caring people across San Diego and World Spay Day.
It all started with Doris Day
Naming a festival aimed at removing the testes and ovaries of animals after a legendary performer seems…like a stretch. But in 1978 Doris Day founded her Animal Foundation, which in turn, founded Spay Day USA in 1995 to help eliminate the problem of homeless pets.
Because it saves millions of animals’ lives
At least three million adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized in the U.S. each year because they don’t have homes — numbers largely attributable to unplanned litters that could have been prevented by spaying or neutering. Spaying and neutering can also reduce the incidence of some of the most common types of cat and dog cancers.
Because it makes more room in shelters
Even if you could, in theory, find loving homes for the puppies and kittens your animals might produce, there’ll still be fewer homes for puppies and kittens already in animal shelters. And that means they’re more likely to be killed. This is a day that really draws attention to the importance of not being super selfish when it comes to watching your pets experience the miracle of birth!

Calling on all contestants to play the 2023 round of PAW WARS! This original game was created by SNAP in recognition of National Spay-Neuter Awareness Month in February. The objective is to see if dogs, cats, or rabbits, are the most popular pet, out there in the community. The anticipated outcome is a free clinic in a lower-income neighborhood for the pet that receives the most votes. Cats won the top spot in 2021 and 2022. Can the felines remain the reigning champion in 2023? Click here to vote for DOG, CAT, or RABBIT, (or use the QR codes above) as the best pet for you, starting at just $1 per vote. Our goal is to raise $3,500 to make the free clinic possible for animals that may otherwise never receive any medical care during their lifetime. Voting begins now and we will keep you posted on the lead pet until the contest ends on February 28, 2023.
